Full-Time Program Manager, Advocacy Campaigns

Job Description

Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation’s largest gun violence prevention advocacy group, is seeking a Program Manager to fulfill an integral role on our Advocacy Campaigns Team.  This position plays a critical role in the operations of our regional pod system for running cross departmental campaigns and implementing our organizational priorities. The regional pods are how our organization operationalizes priority campaigns, including local, state and federal legislative campaigns, electoral campaigns, as well as public education and awareness campaigns. This person will be responsible for developing tracking systems for all of our campaigns and will provide logistical support around tools and technology used by staff working in the pods. The Program Manager will also play a critical role in maintaining internal communication between departments and across the organization about the work of the regional pods.

This position is based in our New York City Office.

Key Responsibilities:

Campaign Tracking and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain tracking systems for campaigns being run in the four regional pods
  • Coordinate with key departments to ensure metrics, tactics, and budget are tracked by campaign
  • Track pod meeting notes and develop a system so that staff across the organization can be updated on campaign progress
  • Provide regular tracking updates to the Senior Director of Advocacy Campaigns and the Campaign Directors
  • Work with the data department and key stakeholders to develop reporting systems for priority campaigns run within the regional pods
  • Manage annual calendar for campaign development, annual planning for the regional pods, and budget planning in concert with national organizations annual planning calendar

Operations Management and Communication

  • Track department spending and reporting
  • Manage logistics and staff communication for department wide events
  • Budget Management – in consultation with the Senior Director of Advocacy Campaigns develop budget recommendations and tracking for the work conducted in the regional pods, provide updates, and liaise with the Finance department and accountants
  • Accounting and contracts – manage vendor contracts, track expenses and invoices in conjunction with the Operations Manager for Advocacy Campaigns
  • Proactively improve systems and processes for management of the regional pods
  • Serve as the departmental operations liaison between the regional pods and other departments
  • Programmatic/campaign projects as assigned

Interdepartmental Coordination and Communication

  • Work with the Operations Manager for Advocacy Campaigns and coordinators and administrators for key departments working in the regional pods to ensure administrative systems supporting campaign work are running efficiently
  • Work with the internal communications team to ensure effective communication of the work of the regional pods to staff and organizational leadership
  • Develop internal communications plan with the Senior Director of Advocacy Campaigns

Required skills and qualifications

  • 3+ years of related professional experience, including 3+ years of project management
  • Detail-oriented in communication, review of paperwork, and creation of systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google suite, and the ability to quickly learn new systems
  • Ability to organize large amounts of complex information for concise decision making
  • An independent and proactive problem solver with the ability to be resourceful
  • Comfortable shifting priorities and plans quickly when needed
  • Understanding of how stereotypes, bias, and forms of racism in America (including structural racism, implicit bias, gender bias, religious bias, ageism, and bias based on gender identity or sexual orientation) impact our society, with an expectation that you will develop an ability to articulate the connection between these large societal issues and the disproportionate impact of gun violence on specific demographic groups in America
  • Understand how dynamics of power, voice, and privilege impact one-on-one and group interactions, and a commitment to using power, voice and privilege to make our movement more equitable
  • Able to work confidently and independently with lateral and senior staff
  • Ability to keep information and workflow organized and easily accessible for yourself and others
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to travel as needed

The strongest candidates will also have our preferred skills and experience:

  • Excellent project management experience
  • Experience developing tracking systems for large projects with many stakeholders
  • Experience working on issue based organizing or political campaigns
  • A friendly, patient, and proactive approach to supporting colleagues
  • Experience using systems like Quickbase to manage contracts, invoices, and payments
