Full-Time Program Manager

Job Description

Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (“Everytown for Gun Safety”) is the largest gun violence prevention organization in the country. Everytown for Gun Safety’s Community Safety Initiatives (CSI) team, focuses on scaling promising community-based violence intervention (CVI) strategies via direct investment, capacity building and advocacy. We are seeking a Senior Program Manager of Legislative Advocacy.

Everytown CSI leads Everytown’s Community Safety Fund (CSF), which has supported 119 community-based violence intervention organizations in 68 cities since 2019; the Everytown Community Training Institute, which delivers capacity-building training to our grantees, elected officials and governmental agencies in partnership with national subject matter experts; and informs Everytown’s legislative advocacy at all levels of government, in support of the CVI field at large.

Successful candidates will lead targeted engagement efforts with current, former and prospective grantees to assess program implementation, government grant and legislative advocacy readiness, collaborate with Everytown departments to proactively integrate CSF grantees into current and forthcoming CVI-relevant public awareness and legislative campaigns, manage capacity-building offerings in partnership with subject matter experts to enhance readiness, deliver direct support to CSF grantees as necessary to further their capacity-building and develop work product. The Program Manager will also conduct ecosystem and organizational needs assessments to evaluate systems practices; identify and prioritize gaps; and use data to inform system change and the advancement of the CVI field at large.

Additionally, the Program Manager will support efforts to engage and build the capacity of city leaders and elected officials to fuel efforts to create coordinating bodies and scale local CVI ecosystems and serve as a CSI representative on cross-departmental teams.

This position follows a hybrid work model – 3 days in office/2 days remote

Principal Responsibilities

  • Advise Managing Director and Associate Director of Engagement and Assessment of current and emerging legislative trends reflected in targeted engagement with CSF grantees, internal and external stakeholders as well as tracking and monitoring of relevant federal, state and local legislation, budgets and grants
  • Support the development and execution of a targeted grantee engagement and assessment strategy, in partnership with the Associate Director of Engagement and Assessment, to measure program implementation, government grant and legislative advocacy readiness as well as inform the development of capacity building and direct support offerings for CSF grantees
  • Lead the development of capacity-building offerings in partnership with Associate Director of Engagement and Assessment and subject matter experts to enhance advocacy and government grant readiness of CSF grantees and deliver virtual and in-person programming to ensure skill enhancement
  • Leads the development, implementation, and coordination of in-person needs assessments of CVI ecosystems and organizations
  • Produce comprehensive reports and presentations of assessment findings and recommendations in collaboration with the Associate Director of Engagement and Assessment
  • Provide practical and innovative ideas on potential reports, advocacy, communications, and outreach related to current grantees and CVI field at large
  • Manage the creation of fact sheets, how tos, letters of support, things to know and other compelling advocacy materials, to raise awareness among CSF grantees about current and forthcoming legislation, grants and advocacy campaigns
  • Work closely with cross functional teams, as appropriate, overseeing strategic initiatives to assess and inform the CVI field at large and contribute to Everytown’s policy and legislative strategy
  • Represent CSI in various internal and external capacities, including in regional pods, government affairs pods, stakeholder meetings and at conferences related to creating and sustaining grants, legislative efforts to build capacity and scale local CVI ecosystems
  • Lead the development of talking points and presentations related to our legislative advocacy and capacity-building efforts in support of internal and external communications
  • Interact regularly with Everytown staff across all departments to ensure effective coordination and integration of CSF grantees

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5+ years of work experience in city or state government, a non-profit or foundation, including 2+ years in grant management and/or administration
  • Demonstrated experience producing written products for non-technical audiences using clear, accessible language, proper grammar and correct spelling.
  • Experience editing, and proofreading in a fast-paced, busy environment
  • Demonstrated experience designing and conducting ecosystem/organizational needs and gap assessments using quantitative and qualitative methodologies
  • Strong legislative advocacy skills with the ability to break complex questions into components and address them systematically
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to develop problem-solving strategies and adopt those strategies as needed
  • Track record facilitating partnerships, meetings, convenings and building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including community members and community-based organizations
  • Experience working with marginalized communities, community-based violence intervention programs, national violence prevention organizations and survivors of trauma is a plus
  • A commitment to social justice
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a team, take direction and interact professionally
  • Ability to perform in a fast-moving environment and to deliver timely and high-quality work
  • Strong work ethic, sense of humor, flexibility, creativity, and a consistently professional demeanor
  • Ability to work in a sometimes-hectic, open-plan office at least 3 days per week
  • Passion for Everytown’s mission of preventing gun violence in America
  • Ability and willingness to travel as necessary to support team, organizational priorities and events and partner-led programs
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Excellent judgment and communication skills
