Denver Botanic Gardens is currently seeking a Part Time (32-39 Hours per week) Program Coordinator, School of Botanical Art & Illustration in our Exhibitions Department! Read below to see if the requirements might be a good fit for you:

Position Summary

This position coordinates, supports and implements a variety of programs offered through Denver Botanic Gardens’ School of Botanical Art & Illustration including classes, events, workshops, lectures, tours, group travel and other educational experiences to adult audiences, whether delivered in-person or in a remote learning environment. The coordinator is responsible for overseeing student communications, keeping accurate records, maintaining program calendar and course schedule, and developing systems that are efficient, organized and transparent. This role is responsible for stewarding safe and meaningful educational experiences for participants that align with the Gardens mission, values and interpretive themes. The program coordinator must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

Requirements

General Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares, supports, and moderates assigned online and on-site programs, including but not limited to webinars, workshops, demonstrations, lessons, labs, presentations, discussions, symposia, events, classes, and offsite/online outreach.
  • Moderates and schedules online Zoom (or other platform) learning sessions, assisting instructors and participants both; coordinate necessary recordings and related post-program access.
  • Keeps accurate records of attendance, offerings, supply inventories or other data.
  • Sets up learning management system and maintains communication with participants and instructors in advance, during and following programs.
  • Serves as first point of contact for program; monitor and responds to inquiries through program and individual email accounts.
  • Attends and contributes to committee, project team and department meetings.
  • Maintains a positive, helpful, and solution-oriented demeanor when responding to or serving students, instructors, members, volunteers, and visitors.
  • Regular attendance at the worksite may be required. As with all positions at Denver Botanic Gardens, the incumbent must be in good performance standing to be eligible for remote work. Remote work is at the discretion of management at all times.

Position Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience and comfortability speaking and presenting to groups.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn best practices in fields of botanical illustration, adult learning principles, museum education and related fields.
  • Ability to think strategically and work collaboratively to develop course schedules, logistics, policies, and communication systems.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations in person and online.
  • Knowledge moderating and facilitating programs in person and online.
  • Ability to respond to sensitive issues with care and maintain confidentiality with sensitive or operational topics.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with groups as well as comfort working independently to accomplish tasks.
  • Knowledge of various artistic mediums; ability to assist with supply sourcing, classroom setup and maintenance of equipment, tools and supplies needed for arts programming.
  • Ability to self-direct and autonomously make decisions regarding programmatic and institutional policies; understand when to escalate an issue or request direction.

  • Ability to work with diverse staff and audiences of all ages, adaptable to different communication styles.

  • Ability to be flexible and willing to modify plans, when necessary, throughout the day.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Suite products, specifically Word, Excel and Outlook and Teams.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems, data asset management systems and customer relationship management systems highly preferred.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends and overtime as required by the program.
  • Must be committed to working safely at all times.

Experience/Education:

  • Bachelors degree and/or combination of relevant lived experience is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in non-profit arts and/or education field is required.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed care, adult learning principles and culturally sustaining teaching practices is preferred.
  • Ability to fluently communicate in Spanish preferred but not required.

Travel:

Up to 10% travel required. Requires the ability to travel to remote locations (or other Garden locations) where environment may vary significantly.
