American Academy of Arts and Sciences – Posted by staffing@amacad.org Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States

Job Description

Program Associate: American Political Economy and the Public Good

(American Institutions, Society, and the Public Good)

The American Academy of Arts and Sciences seeks a Program Associate within the “American Institutions, Society, and the Public Good” program area to play a central coordinating role in the Academy’s efforts surrounding its new Commission on the American Political Economy and the Public Good. As the Academy launches this multi-year initiative, the Program Associate will work with Academy staff and commission members to provide logistical, research, and administrative support.

The Commission on the American Political Economy and the Public Good will study how economic trends of the last 50 years have fractured social cohesion and exacerbated distrust in the United States.

The Commission will identify ways to restore faith in institutions and propose recommendations to shore up a commitment to the common good for the long term. The Commission is tentatively scheduled to launch in the fall of 2021.

The Academy is committed to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion and looks to all its staff members to foster and promote these values.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this position will operate completely remotely through July 6, 2020, after which the position will be based at the House of the Academy in Cambridge, MA, with partial remote work scheduling available upon discussion.

Primary Responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Excellent organizational skills, an acute attention to detail, and follow through on tasks.
  • Ability to be flexible, learn quickly, seek creative solutions, pivot when needed, and work accurately under pressure on complex, highly publicized projects.
  • Strong writing, proofreading, research, and editing skills.
  • Experience with budget-tracking and project management.
  • Ability to comfortably and professionally communicate with a wide range of audiences, including Academy members, staff, and the public at large.
