THE ROLE

As a Production Planner you will be involved in organization for production according to our customer needs and quality standards. You will have ownership of the processing of metal by collaborating with outside vendors to ensure accuracy of parts, timeliness of order completion, and effective communication with all parties involved in servicing our customers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The key responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

  • Accurately process materials to ensure finished goods are available for on-time delivery
  • Analyze back orders, current orders, and upcoming orders to prioritize, plan and schedule production
  • Partner with the CSRs and Commercial groups to provide schedule overviews
  • Keep accurate notes on all open production orders: schedule timing, WIP status and any pertinent info required
  • Communicate delays as soon as possible and work with our processing partners to expedite when necessary
  • Enter completed production quickly to ensure timely movement of finished goods to customer
  • Notify CSRs and Commercial team when production cost deviates from original plan
  • Know your processors, their capabilities, strengths & weaknesses
  • Estimate scrap on every processing order and assist Commercial and CSRs on scrap assumptions to calculate accurate profit margins
  • Properly cost drop-cuts in the system for actual margin realization

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESS

  • 1 years’ experience in account management, inside sales, or related field
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Initiative and heightened sense of urgency to work proactively in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong customer orientation and the ability to respond to different personalities
  • Resourcefulness and initiative in problem solving
  • Effective, concise communication in person, on the phone, and in writing
  • Ability to organize, plan, prioritize and execute on multiple tasks under dynamic time constraints
  • Comfort with bringing potential issues to light, asking questions, and driving resolution
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and also excel and contribute as an individual
  • Experience in the steel or metal industry or service center industry preferred

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibility.
