Full-Time Product Qualification Engineer – Traffic Electronics
Job Description
- Evaluate and approve traffic signal control equipment and associated materials/hardware used on the Highway System.
- Perform administrative and technical work associated with the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and Signals Qualified Products List program regulating traffic signal equipment supplied to the State by private contractors.
- Evaluate and recommend approval of contractor-supplied equipment proposed for use on Highway System projects.
- Assist with Traffic Electronics Center daily operations.
- Assist our 5 electronics technicians with technical issues such as programming, parts research, and test equipment.
- Provide technical support to the other teams in the Mobility and Safety Division, our 14 Highway Divisions, and municipalities.
- Knowledge and understanding of the principles and practices of Electrical Engineering related to traffic signals design, construction, and maintenance.
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision.
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office, especially Access and Excel.
- Knowledge and understanding of Electrical and Electronic schematics, symbols, manuals, and associated documentation.
- Experience writing memos, reports, specifications, and emails clearly conveying technical information and engineering concepts.
- A Class C Driver’s License and the ability to operate a motor vehicle for statewide travel (with occasional overnight travel).
- Ability to traverse rough terrain associated with roadside environments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- We may require you to register as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
- Bachelors degree in Engineering, and
- 3+ years experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
