PrEP Navigator (90813)

This position pays between $20.00 to $22.42/ hour. Salary commensurate with experience.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The PrEP Navigator will work closely with the Biomedical Prevention Manager to perform PrEP and PEP education, engagement, patient navigation and adherence counseling to PrEP and PEP patients. The Navigator will conduct client-centered PrEP/PEP education and adherence counseling services with a focus on patient acquisition, engagement and retention.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide patients and clients with basic introductory education regarding PrEP/PEP.
  • Assist patients and clients in scheduling primary care visits to further discuss PrEP and other health care concerns with a medical provider.
  • Assess client’s health literacy level and conduct follow-up to offer adherence counseling based on client’s needs.
  • Assist in scheduling appointments for patients receiving PrEP.
  • Maintain, acquire, and fulfill required documentation for patient assistance programs (PAP).
  • Ensure proper collection, storage, and transmission of data used in reporting, research, and program evaluation.
  • Provide education about Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), and other effective biomedical and prevention interventions; refer eligible, interested clients to primary care medical services at an APLA Health clinic to further discuss PEP and other preventive care with an APLA Health provider.
  • Provide immediate counseling and linkage to referrals for sexual assault victims.
  • Review and maintain up-to-date and accurate knowledge of emerging scientific research regarding biomedical HIV prevention strategies, including PrEP, PEP and related interventions.
  • Oversee Peer Health Educators (PHEs) outreach activities.
  • Maintain highest level of client confidentiality; follow HIPAA regulations.

OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in public health or related field OR four years’ experience working in HIV/STD prevention or other community health programs required. Familiarity with PrEP/PEP and other biomedical interventions.  Experience in a nonprofit environment preferred; specific training/experience with HIV and other health related issues preferred.  Training/experience working in HIV prevention and health education/health promotion and program development. Bilingual – Spanish/English preferred.

 

Knowledge of:

Health disparities spectrum of HIV and STD disease; health literacy, harm reduction theory; behavior modification theory; human sexuality; substance use and abuse; motivational interviewing techniques; outreach strategies; data management; health and social concerns of individuals who are at high risk of HIV infection, transgender individuals, sexual assault survivors, and sex workers; risk reduction theory; principles of social marketing; and venues where the target population congregates, including the Internet.

 

Ability to:

Work independently; work effectively with diverse staff, volunteers and professionals; work effectively with diverse community stakeholders who may hold a wide range of opinions on individuals who are at a high risk of HIV infection; identify particular goals and objectives with respect to harm reduction; meet frequent, sometimes conflicting deadlines in a rapidly changing environment; respond with sensitivity to social inequities and diverse ethnic groups; maintain confidentiality.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less. The position requires daily use of a personal computer and requires entering, viewing, and revising text and graphics on the computer terminal and on paper.

 

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work some nights, weekends, and occasional irregular hours.
