Planner I – $63,036 – $88,250 DOE

Planner II – $71,232 – $99,725 DOE

The Town of Vail is now recruiting a Planner to join our Community Development Department. With a large number of development review applications and new development activity this is undoubtedly an exciting time to be part of the Town of Vail planning team.

We are looking for a self-motivated, dedicated individual with an exceptional work ethic who has demonstrated abilities in handling multiple projects and a heavy workload to join our high-performing team. The selected candidate shall be customer-service oriented with a positive attitude, and will primarily perform current planning duties in development review.

Specific responsibilities include: Responding to zoning and development questions; reviewing and analyzing development and architectural plans for compliance with all Town of Vail development standards and guidelines; providing professional counsel and expertise to applicants, the public, and decision-making boards; offering solutions to planning issues; writing technical reports, performing complex research, and making presentations to decision-making boards. The Town is seeking a Planner I, or Planner II (depending on qualifications) for this position.

The ideal candidate for this position must have excellent communications skills (both oral and written), an ability to accurately read and interpret architectural plans, a working knowledge of urban planning/design principles and the demonstrated ability to apply this knowledge within the development review process, development review project management, code enforcement/compliance, excellent facilitation and problem-solving skills, a commitment to providing extraordinary service to our customers, and be able to perform at a high level in a value-based and team-oriented environment.

Education, Experience & Certificates:

  • Bachelors Degree in Land Use/Urban Planning, City Planning, Urban Design or a closely related field and a minimum of 6 months of practical experience (internships will be given due consideration) required; or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A Masters Degree in Urban Planning, City Planning, Urban Design or a closely related field is preferred.
