Full-Time Philanthropy Manager
Job Description
Job title: Philanthropy Manager
Location: London with flexible working arrangements (including hybrid working, up to 60% working from home)
Salary: £34,000-£39,000
Hours: 5 days per week (37.5 hours), open to flexible working arrangements
Contract: Permanent
Background: At Breaking Barriers we welcome refugees into meaningful employment with advice, experience and education. Our Philanthropy Team (currently 8 people based in London) is responsible for raising funds from traditional trusts & foundations, corporate foundations, High Value Individuals, and statutory bodies. We are looking for a motivated and driven Philanthropy Manager to join our ambitious and supportive team, to help us expand our grant fundraising.
Overall Purpose of the Role: You will focus on managing a portfolio of charitable trusts and foundations to secure annual and multi-year gifts towards all aspects of our work. You will also be proactively developing statutory funding opportunities with local authorities, especially in Breaking Barriers’ geographical areas of expansion, and sometimes nationally.
The relationships we have built with trusts and foundations have been instrumental to our success to date. We consider this to be a key area for growth and development to ensure our long-term sustainability, particularly at this exciting time with our recent expansion into Birmingham and Greater Manchester as we work towards ambitious organisational goals and fundraising targets as part of our new 2030 strategy. Your focus will be on building lasting relationships with trusts and foundations through astute prospect research, excellent proposal writing and relationship building, outstanding stewardship and meaningful collaboration across the wider fundraising team and organisation. You will also develop and manage relationships with statutory partners, including submitting high quality bids, reporting and grant management.
You will report into a Senior Philanthropy Manager based in London, and will work closely with the rest of the Philanthropy team (which also includes Major Gifts and Statutory), and colleagues in the Corporate Partnerships, Finance, Data, Delivery and Communications teams. You will network with senior stakeholders both internally and externally, so it is vital that you are an exceptional relationship builder, and comfortable working with a range of people.
You will be an ambitious, enthusiastic, energetic, and autonomous fundraiser with a demonstrable passion for supporting people from a refugee background. You will have a strong track record of high-value relationship management and fundraising, ideally specialising in trusts and foundations, and/or statutory fundraising. We are looking for someone who can successfully secure and steward gifts of 5 figures and above – so evidence of stewarding high-value relationships and high-quality written skills are key.
We welcome applicants with relevant transferable skills from other sectors and other areas of fundraising but a strong knowledge of the fundamentals of grant fundraising is essential. We are looking for a passionate individual who can get people excited about the work we do and who wants to make a difference in the lives of individuals from a refugee background. You will share our energy and determination, and will be attracted by the idea of working in a team with big ambitions, and in which you will have the opportunity to grow and develop. We encourage creative thinking and new ideas so a proactive individual who is able to spot opportunities and take the initiative would thrive in this role.
