Full-Time Permitting Supervisor (Supervisor I – E)
Job Description
The City of Portland is seeking a Permitting Supervisor within the Utilities, Construction & Inspection Division of the Portland Bureau of Transportation.
This position will directly supervise five Engineering Technician staff in a volume driven and team-oriented environment. Additionally, this position will be directly communicating with both internal and external stakeholders to disseminate policy and procedure information related to the application and review of utility infrastructure placement in the Right of Way.
What you’ll get to do:
- Provide leadership, coaching, and training to five Engineering Technician staff including personal development targets, coaching, and distribution of work.

- Develop and monitor unit performance and identify opportunities for improvement; oversee development of new tasks and responsibilities for programs and projects.
- Ensure that critical unit functions are completed, and tasks and duties assigned to staff are achieved within schedule and budget or progressing as scheduled.
- Communicate the status of programs, projects, and tasks with Bureau/Office management and other related units and make recommendations and adjustments as necessary.
- Assist in the development and administration of the unit’s budget, including cost analysis of programs, projects, and staff.
- Supervise the staff of the Utility Permitting program, address customer service complaints and concerns.
