Full-Time Performance Centre Lead Coach, World Class Aquatics Programme

waltonk – Posted by waltonk Manchester, England, United Kingdom

Job Description

British Swimming is the national governing body for the aquatic sports in Great Britain and is responsible internationally for representation at high performance level. Our World Class Aquatics Programmes provide a number of Performance Centre daily training environments for permanent athlete groups as well as acting as ‘hubs’ for national programme-wide activity, and a focal point for the provision of sports science and medicine services.

Following a very successful period in our Paralympic and Olympic history, we are pleased to advertise this exciting opportunity to lead the coaching team at the Manchester Performance Centre, situated at the Manchester Aquatics Centre as a new partnership with Swim England. Manchester will be evolving from a para-swimming only environment into a fully integrated Paralympic/Olympic Performance Centre from September 2024. British Swimming is recruiting a Lead Coach to provide world-class standard coaching to athletes with the ultimate objective of achieving medal success at major international and Paralympic/Olympic level.

The role will work closely with Swim England, with the centre providing opportunities for identified Swim England Performance athletes both as a resident programme and as a hub to transition into at an appropriate time, and Manchester City Council as key host.

The post will work under the overall direction of the Associate Performance Director with a close day to day working relationship with the Head Coaches of both the Para-Swimming and Swimming World Class Programmes, and Swim England Swimming National Technical Lead.

The successful candidate will be responsible for coaching and driving the development of swimmers across all strokes and distances. They will devise individual athlete plans, including setting performance targets and process goals in collaboration with other senior programme staff. The individual will be the lead a support team of specialist practitioners assigned to drive innovation and maximise performance gains for your swimmers.

As a member of the British Swimming’s employed coaching staff, the successful candidate will also work with other coaches to drive improvements to technical skills, deliver coaching and coaching development for national activities and – when selected – play a lead role on national teams.

You should have extensive on-deck swimming coaching experience developing athletes towards Paralympic/Olympic medal success, with clear understanding of both swimming and para-swimming, including world standards and the domestic performance pathway. The individual will be able to demonstrate an ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team to drive individual athlete development and this will include proven experience in maintaining formal athlete tracking systems, detailed season planning and use of a review framework. British Swimming will be looking for candidates who can develop and embed a high-performance culture at the Performance Centre, championing a ‘winning well’ ethos and positive coaching behaviours across all programme activity and operating a one team approach within the Centre.

If you feel that you have the skills and attributes for this role, then we would like to hear from you.

The post holder will be required to undertake significant domestic and international travel.
