Full-Time People & Culture Manager
Job Description
The Brigid Alliance seeks to add a People & Culture Manager to help to create and shape the culture of a remotely staffed organization as it’s looking to sustain a period of significant growth beckoned by an increasing need for travel support among abortion seekers in the US. The People & Culture Manager will work closely to collaborate with and report to the Director of Operations.
About:
The Brigid Alliance (501c3) is a nationwide practical support organization for people who must travel long distances for abortion care. Working across the United States, we arrange and fund confidential travel, lodging, childcare, and logistical assistance, closing the gap between the need for an abortion and the ability to access one. We partner with independent and nationally affiliated clinics, abortion funds, and local and regional practical support organizations. The Brigid Alliance envisions a world where everyone has access to abortion care, uninhibited by stigma, and free of systemic or geographic barriers.
Since launching in August of 2018, The Brigid Alliance has assisted over 3,000 individuals and families from all 50 states. We are a crucial part of the reproductive health ecosystem connecting the geographic and metaphorical dots between policy, providers, practice, and patients.
Responsibilities:
With a current staff of 16 and expectations to double our growth in this next year, The Brigid Alliance is ready to hire its first full-time People & Culture position. The People & Culture Manager will report to the Director of Operations and will plan, develop, and coordinate all functions of the employee experience, ensuring equity and inclusion, employee engagement, and legal compliance in support of the organization’s mission. We seek candidates that thrive in evolving organizations, are comfortable leading and working amidst organizational change, and are excited about helping The Brigid Alliance expand its impact. Responsibilities include:
- Assess, plan, and build out the People & Culture function within the organization
- Own and be the go-to person for all employee-related processes:
- Support managers to design new positions and prepare job descriptions
- Develop and formalize recruiting, onboarding, and offboarding processes
- Work with managers to identify staff development needs, and develop and implement plans to meet these needs
- Develop and implement plans for employee engagement
- Manage employee relations matters
- Manage and improve performance management and evaluation processes
- Manage the PEO (payroll and benefits) vendor and other benefit carriers, ensuring employees and the organization are achieving maximum value from their services
- Conduct compensation benchmarking and ensure equitable and competitive compensation policies and pay scales
- Practice and model for others equitable and inclusive practices for others in all aspects of the work
- Continually seek to ensure and improve diversity, equity, and inclusion
- With the support of the PEO partner, develop and maintain knowledge of employment law in all states in which Brigid Alliance has staff and ensure the organization remains compliant
- Maintain knowledge of trends and leading practices in People & Culture, and apply this knowledge to identify, implement, and measure improvements to People & Culture effectiveness
- Support and coach supervisors and staff in all people-related matters
- Use data to evaluate and improve People & Culture effectiveness
- Strategic planning around organizational structure with leadership
- Collaborate with the Director of Operations and any other relevant staff to plan one to two all-staff events per year
- Perform other duties as required
Qualifications/Requirements:

Requirements:
- 5+ years’ experience in HR/People and Culture with experience across most HR disciplines
- 3+ years’ management experience
- Demonstrated experience creating or changing and improving HR processes
- Role model for giving and receiving feedback and committed to practicing this regularly
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute multiple and sometimes urgent tasks in an environment where priorities often conflict
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion on sensitive matters
- An understanding of and affinity for The Brigid Alliance’s mission, and commitment to abortion access and reproductive justice
Nice-to-Have:
- Knowledge of employment laws and regulations in the states where Brigid Alliance has staff
- Willingness and ability to work at both a strategic and tactical level, both managing others and directly executing tasks as necessary

We are looking for someone who is a systems thinker, who enjoys using data to evaluate effectiveness and efficiency to measure new practices, and is highly competent in working with – or has a willingness to learn – technology (TriNet, email, word processing, Google Workspace, etc).
Work Environment
- The Brigid Alliance is a New York-originated organization with a fully remote team
- This position follows a Monday to Friday work schedule, 40 hours a week
- This position will require heavy computer use
- Current staff are in Pacific, Central, Mountain, and Eastern time zones; keeping 9am-5pm Eastern time hours is preferred
- This position is open to folks living in the following: Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Virginia, and the District of Columbia
- This person is required to attend quarterly in-person multi-day collaboration sessions in New York City with the Director of Operations
Compensation and Benefits:
This is a full-time, exempt position with a starting annual salary range of $90K – $110K depending on experience, with a benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, and life insurance (eligible from first day of employment), paid family leave (12 weeks at 100% salary continuation), 403b contributions, PTO (17 days of PTO during the first two years, 20 days of PTO from years two to five, 25 days of PTO for five years or more), nine holidays plus end of year office closure from December 24-31, and monthly remote working stipend ($150 per month, or $75 per semi-monthly payroll). The organization also commits to professional development with an annual budget of $1,500 per person. Comprehensive benefits details are available upon request.
