Full-Time Peer Recovery Support Services Specialist – Offender Reentry Program

Job Description

EAC Network seeks a Peer Recovery Support Services Specialist to work full time for the Offender Reentry Program Program located in Brooklyn, NY. The position is Monday-Friday 9:00AM-5:00PM with excellent benefits medical/dental/401K and very generous Paid Time Off Plan.

Primary Purpose of Job:

The Peer Recovery Support Services Specialist (PRSS) will assist clients with co-occurring substance use and mental disorders (COD) returning from state prison to NYC. The PRSS is responsible for outreach to community-based organizations, providers and recovery networks; engage, accompany and support returnees; participate in ongoing training and supervision.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Participate in planning for services for clients, through face-to-face meetings and facilitation of group discussions.
  2. Assist program participants in completing required assignments.
  3. Meet with clients on an on-going, as needed basis on and off site and be available via email and cell phone for support, advice, and guidance
  4. Participate in team meetings.
  5. Participate in regularly scheduled on-going trainings and supervision
  6. Assist in connecting clients to community-based support resources, clubhouses, and other ancillary services.
  7. Maintain client charts and notes, update after each interaction with client and have available for inspection by supervision at any time.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

  1. High school diploma or educational equivalent required.
  2. Experience as an ex-offender in recovery (2 years) from substance use.
  3. PRSS training certification and/or similar peer certification or must be able to obtain certification within 6 months of employment.
  4. Must have good communication skills, both oral and written.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with multiple agencies.
  6. Knowledge of target population and area resources.
  7. Experience with group facilitation preferable.
  8. Experience using cognitive behavioral therapies, motivational interviewing and/or positive youth development preferable.
