Full-Time Peer Recovery Specialist TCR
Job Description
TITLE: Transgender Center of the Rockies Peer Recovery Specialist (Preferred experience working with transgender and gender non-confirming folks)
LOCATION: Sheridan, CO
The Transgender Center of the Rockies (TCR) Peer Recovery Specialist is responsible for coordinating all peer recovery activities at the Transgender Center of the Rockies. The Peer Recovery Specialist reports directly to the Director of the TCR and Deputy Director of Public Health and Community Engagement.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Outreach:
· Create and implement outreach plans targeting transgender, non-binary, and gender-expansive clients for program recruitment
· Research and participate in tabling events to talk about (TCR) programming
· Build a referral network for services specializing in transgender and gender expansive clients
Peer Support:
· Run weekly peer Support groups for behavioral health clients of the TCR
· Provide one-on-one coaching for clients utilizing Wellness Recovery Action Plan and Peer Coaching principles
· Participate in weekly team meetings
· Plan and execute gender affirming and substance free outings for clients
· Plan and execute monthly activities with the Peer Recovery Team
· Carry after hour phone four weeks a year to provide Warmline Peer Coaching
· Conduct urinalysis screens on participants
· Help with Cold Weather Activation at the Aurora Day Resource Center (some nights/weekends required)
· Other duties as assigned
Record Management:
· Maintain necessary data records in accordance with CDPHE’s standards for HIV services MHBHC policies, and other grant requirements
· Input collected data into appropriate software for grant reporting within 10 days of collection
Provide monthly progress reports to Program Manager and Deputy Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Outgoing personality comfortable with starting conversations to unknown individuals
· Cultural competency around/understanding of transgender and gender expansive communities, needs, and relevant terminology
· Comfort in engaging people in difficult venues and discussing sexual health topics
· Familiarity with LGBTQ cultural and health disparities
· Ability to speak in front of large groups of people
· Experience in group facilitation on a wide variety of topics
· Excellent communication and computer skills
· Experience in sexual health work and/or Peer Recovery services
· Willingness to obtain COPA credential for Peer Recovery
Preferred: Familiarity with various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc
Preferred: Proficiency in Spanish
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Education: High School Diploma or GED
· Experience Preferred: At least one year in performing client-directed services in a field such as social service, grassroots organizations, community advocacy and/or with the homeless population
· At least one year of continuous sobriety, 2+ years preferred
· At least two years off supervision (probation, parole, etc.)
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· Occasional travel (within Denver Metro)
· Position will primarily work Monday through Friday with some evening and late night work
· Assist other team members in program execution
· Demonstrated ability to constructively work with persons in crisis situations
COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, hourly position with benefits. Hourly starts at $17.
