Job Description
Clark College is currently accepting applications for a part-time, classified Grounds and Nursery Specialist 1 – position to support the Facilities Services Department. The schedule for this position is Monday – Friday, approximately 16 hours a week.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Seed, mow, irrigate, sweep, fertilize, top dress, edge, and maintain lawns.
- Plant, cultivate and maintain greenhouse plants.
- Assist with or prepare soil for planning seed, sod, turf, plants, trees, and shrubs.
- Clean, service, sterilize and maintain tools and equipment.
- Use a variety of manual tools and equipment, such as rakes, hang edger’s, loppers, shovels, wheelbarrows, weeding forks, hoes, pruning shears and pesticide sprayers.
- May operate power and motorized equipment such as lawn mowers, edger’s, weed trimmers, backpack blowers and sweepers.
- Label plants and maintain records.
- Harvest, clean, treat and store seed.
- Assist in moving materials and supplies.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:
Candidates will be evaluated based on application materials, including the supplemental questions and personal interview(s), and will be required to demonstrate competencies in the following areas:
- Two (2) years of gardening or grounds keeping experience.
- Possession of valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to obtain pesticide license.
JOB READINESS/WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Ability to use various tools associated with the work.
- Ability to work from blueprints, plans, and sketches.
- Ability use and maintain hand and power tools, specialty tools.
- Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people including students, staff, faculty, peers, vendors, contractors, etc.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds or more if needed.
- Ability and willingness to understand and follow laws, regulations and other standards established to maintain a safe work environment.
- Ability and willingness to work overtime and respond to after-hour emergencies as needed.
- Ability to perform heavy, outside work in inclement weather.
- Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse backgrounds.
- Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant’s suitability and competence to perform in the position.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary Range: $16.12-$21.26 Hour | Step A-M (commensurate with qualifications and experience) | Range: 32| Code: 591I
Successful candidates typically start at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases.
