Job Description

Salary: $58,832-$60,500 Annually
CLASS SUMMARY:
This is the second of four levels in the Parks and Recreation series. Incumbents plan, coordinate, and monitor recreational and youth sports activities and programs. Responsibilities may include hiring seasonal and part-time staff; determining program offerings; developing and implementing operating manuals; promoting service offerings to the community; providing information for the development of a budget; monitoring records; and preparing operational reports. Incumbents supervise lower-level Parks and Recreation staff.

THE CERTIFIED PARKS AND RECREATION PROFESSIONAL (CPRP) CREDENTIAL IS PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED. IN ADDITION TO A COMPLETED APPLICATION, A SEPARATE RESUME MUST BE ATTACHED. Example of Duties

 

TYPICAL CLASS ESSENTIAL DUTIES (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.)
  1. Supervises staff to include: prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe  working environment; and, making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  2. Plans, develops, and markets new and existing recreation programs and/or special events; evaluates programs and events for future improvements and/or modifications.
  3. Promotes programs, events, and offerings to the public.
  4. Develops, implements, and administers operating manuals; monitors operational compliance.
  5. Assists with budget preparation and administration, which may include preparing cost estimates for budget recommendations, submitting justifications for budget items, monitoring and controlling program expenditures.
  6. Prepares a variety of operational records and reports.
  7. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

 

Typical Qualifications

 

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (positions in this class typically require):
Bachelor’s degree in sports management, public administration or a related field and three years experience in Parks and Recreation, including some lead worker experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Incumbents may be subjected to bloodborne pathogens.
