Full-Time Park Superintendent
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
This person in this position is responsible for directing all grounds maintenance activities at the parks and athletic fields throughout the City of Douglasville. The incumbent also serves to assist the Park Maintenance Manager with any facet of the maintenance operation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Directs all parks and athletic fields maintenance activities.
- Assists with the development and execution of special projects.
- Assists in hiring, training, supervising, evaluating, counseling and disciplining subordinate employees.
- Applies pesticide and fertilizers.
- Assists in purchasing materials and supplies.
- Completes and maintains files of all required paperwork and reports including purchase orders, billings, records of chemicals and fertilizer applications, work schedules, employee timecards and monthly reports.
- Performs electrical, mechanical and carpentry repairs on occasion.
- Maintains irrigation system on athletic fields, including necessary water use records.
- Holds monthly safety meetings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Must possess a high school diploma. Requires five (5) years of park maintenance or similar industry experience; or sufficient experience to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems. Must obtain or be willing to obtain your CPSI certification within one year of employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the techniques, materials, and equipment requirements for parks maintenance.
- Skilled in planning, organizing, and supervising tasks and projects.
- Knowledge of relevant laws, City ordinances, policies and procedures, and departmental and safety regulations.
- Knowledge of grounds maintenance and landscaping.
- Skilled in operating general equipment, tractors, mowers, maintenance and construction equipment.
- Skilled in oral and written communication.
- Financial Responsibilities: Make recommendations that impact the budget.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSE AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Must obtain a current Georgia driver’s license.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is medium work and requires hearing, mental acuity, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Incumbent works in an environment with heavy equipment and machinery that could result in bodily harm to co-workers or others.
