Full-Time Packaging Design Manager

Job Description

At Sense Studio we combine design, image-making and storytelling, to create and develop a suite of beauty brands that have had remarkable success and cult-like followings. We are ambitious and passionate about building brands that contribute to the cultural landscape. Our studio is comprised of a closely-knit team of talented creatives who work across all mediums and platforms from design, photography, animation etc.

We are looking for a Packaging Design Manager to lead the packaging design for eva-nyc and amika. The candidate will oversee ideation, development, design and execution of all packaging including specialty items and holiday sets. Ideal candidate is a conceptual, detail-oriented, systematic thinker who strategically designs packaging towards a larger brand narrative while also considering the smaller, thoughtful details that enhance the consumer experience. A perfect fit would be a creative who has experience as part of an in-house team and has had exposure to the full packaging design and development process. The role will report to our Creative Director and will work closely with the brand marketing teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • All phases of primary, secondary and promotional package design from concepting, comps to laying out artwork in dieline. 
  • Helping manage the process through concept, design, engineering, cost analysis, production and manufacturing. Collaborating with all stakeholders to optimize and streamline the packaging process with mindfulness to scalability
  • Work in close partnership with Brand Marketing, Operations/Logistics, Sourcing, Product Development, guiding the design process and synthesizing feedback and input from stakeholders
  • Ensure that all packaging meets cost and business objectives. Deliver work in budget and on time
  • Coordinate and control quality across various packaging manufacturers
  • Drive innovation in packaging through structure, materials and manufacturing processes by staying up to date on industry trends and technology particularly when it comes to sustainable and post-consumer materials
  • Color review of drawdowns, BATs, proofs. Occasionally travel for in-person color and quality control of new items.
  • Evolve and iterate on a cohesive, elevated design system that heroes our product and ensures brand consistency across all packaging touchpoints
  • Uphold our culture of positivity, teamwork and collaboration while mentoring and leading a small team of package designers

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience across the full packaging design and development process from concept through execution
  • Understanding of structural design, printing, materials and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials a plus
  • Capable of working on all packaging touchpoints including core product packaging, soft goods, shipping boxes, printed collateral, etc.
  • Unwavering attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership
  • Highly motivated and self-starter
  • Experienced manager who prioritizes developing and mentoring a team
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate ideas to both creatives and non-creatives
  • Strong print-production knowledge (dielines, bleed, color modes, live area, etc)
  • Beauty or Fashion experience is preferred
  • Thrives in a team environment, contribute ideas and interact with cross-functional partners. Must genuinely enjoy working with others and collaborating.
  • Manages well in a high-volume and fast-paced environment
  • Continuously strives to be inspired and promotes inspiration in others
  • Proficient in Adobe software – Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop; 3D software is a plus
  • Proficient in business and presentation software – Powerpoint, Excel, Keynote
