Job Description: Outreach Assistant – Mortgage Assistance

SALARY LEVEL: Grade 18 DATE: January 2022
SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting staff in enrolling, servicing, and assisting clients in agency programs. Provides services and/or referrals to other sources of assistance. Performs a variety of administrative, reporting, follow up, and data management tasks. Assists other staff as needed. This position requires public contact. Responds to referrals in inquiries for service, assists clients with enrollment, follows up with clients, and completes reporting and tracking. The employee provides services, refers the individual to other area agencies, and/or advocates for the individual to obtain services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Supports and upholds Couleecap’s mission to fight poverty and promote self-sufficiency for individuals by helping to identify needs, resources, and provide quality services.
Assists program participants in the application process for mortgage assistance programs including completing initial intake with clients, determining needs, eligibility for services, and collecting program documentation.
Maintains client database, tracking logs, and documentation case notes. Keeps program records, statistics and prepares reports.
Provides clerical services including data entry, filing, scanning, and other tasks as assigned.
Help counselors coordinate and facilitate making payments toward mortgage and housing expenses.
Coordinates with the state for program compliance requirements.
Attends trainings necessary to perform job duties.
Provides staff support with project specific tasks as necessary. Includes but not limited to, coordinating mass mailings, scheduling meeting/appointments, and ordering materials/supplies.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Requires academic education beyond high school sufficient to qualify for registration in a professional occupation, usually three years beyond high school; or three to four years previous experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Access to reliable, licensed, insured driver and transportation.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Some knowledge and understanding of problems created by poverty. Ability to establish effective working relationships with the clients, public, and other community professionals. Ability to keep accurate records and make reports. Stability, resourcefulness, good judgment, tact, independent critical thinking and courtesy. Knowledge of financial concepts related to budgeting and household finance. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to use office productivity software, research online, and utilize cloud and web-based services is required. Ability to work with contractors to set clear standards and timelines.
