Full-Time Organizing Manager
Job Description
The Organizing Manager plays a pivotal role in the development and continued success of Everytown for Gun Safety. Each Organizing Manager manages several state-level volunteer chapters including Moms Demand Action and Everytown Survivor Network volunteers, focusing on training leaders and the leadership teams to meet the organization’s goals in each state and to build an inclusive, and equitable chapter that represents the diversity of the state. Organizing Managers work with chapter leadership to develop strategic plans and grassroots organizing campaigns. They assess needs, collaboratively set priorities, identify resources, and manage the chapters in their communications, partnerships, and advocacy efforts.
Organizing Managers receive training and resources upon starting, including background on the gun violence prevention movement, Everytown’s policy positions, managing for equity and inclusion, and volunteer management training.

The salary range for this position is $65,000-$68,000/year. We offer benefits including health insurance, vision, and dental, which include gender affirming care, abortion services and care, newborn care and support, mental health services, basic short and long term disability, basic life insurance, 12 weeks of paid bonding leave for birthing and non-birthing parents, plus an additional 6 weeks of paid disability leave for birthing parents. We offer 20 paid vacation days, 2 personal days, 10 sick days, several paid holidays, summer Fridays in which we close at 3pm, and the Everytown offices are closed between Christmas and New Years. We have a continuing education reimbursement program. For remote workers we provide $75/month in cell phone reimbursement as well as a computer and other tech equipment.

This position is permanently work-from-home unless you live in New York City or DC and will need to be able to support volunteers living in Eastern and Central time, including occasional evening meetings. Applicants from any location are encouraged to apply. Staff in NY or DC are required to come to our office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, and can come other days as well if desired.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop volunteer leaders through training, mentorship, active management, and feedback.
- Collaboratively create and manage plans to grow the volunteer chapters in breadth and depth, as well as to be representative of the communities most impacted by gun violence in that area.
- Build diverse teams using management skills for equity and inclusion and equip volunteer leaders with the same skill set and knowledge
- Utilize data about gun violence and the state of the volunteer chapter to direct the volunteers’ focus and energy
- Ensure work on the ground stays focused on agreed upon priorities, while maintaining flexibility needed to rapidly respond to new opportunities and challenges
- Encourage and support tactical innovations from volunteers and help replicate those successes elsewhere
- Act as a liaison between volunteer leaders and the rest of the organization; continually build confidence and excitement about our work, priorities and organizational choices
- Develop knowledge on gun violence prevention policy, local and regional politics and relevant policy issues within the region
- Manage regional budgets and approve budget requests from volunteers
QUALIFICATIONS
- Understand how stereotypes, bias, and forms of racism in America (including structural racism, implicit bias, gender bias, religious bias, ageism, and bias based on gender identity or sexual orientation) impact our society, with an expectation that you will develop an ability to articulate the connection between these large societal issues and the disproportionate impact of gun violence on specific demographic groups in America
- Understand how dynamics of power, voice, and privilege impact one-on-one and group interactions, and a commitment to using power, voice, and privilege to make our movement more equitable, and more representative of communities experiencing disproportionately high rates of gun violence, such as Black, Latinx, and Native communities.
- Passion for ending gun violence
- Passion for and demonstrated experience recruiting, managing, and mentoring volunteers or staff as grassroots organizers, particularly working with marginalized communities, constituents, and volunteer leaders and developing volunteers to utilize best practices for equity and inclusion.
- 1+ year(s) of organizing experience (campaign or community based)
- Experience writing and leading trainings on activism and organizing skills
- Ability to understand, evaluate, and articulate policy issues and develop strategic campaign and movement-building plans
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work with deadlines, under pressure, and be flexible
- Ability to travel within the US
- Self-motivated and proactive problem solver
- Comfort with social media, data management, and technology such as VAN
- Fluency in Spanish not required but is a plus
- We have a preference for hiring people who are survivors of gun violence, have lived experience with gun violence, or are from a community disproportionately impacted by gun violence.
- We require staff to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
