STATUS: Full Time, Non-Exempt
REPORTSTO: Director of Policy and Advocacy
SALARY RANGE: $50,000 – $55,000
LOCATION: Flexible in MO or the IL Metro East
POSITION SUMMARY
The Organizing Manager leads the grassroots organizing program for Advocates of PPSLRSWMO and PPSLRSWMO in Missouri and Illinois. The Manager helps develop organizing strategy and lead a team of regional Organizers to execute campaigns that build community power, move policy, and shift elections toward reproductive freedom. This highly collaborative role serves as the department’s expert coach on tools and tactics, partnering with staff to grow the network of advocates taking action with Planned Parenthood. They are responsible for maintaining a strong data culture by managing the Voter Activation Network (VAN) database and organizing data systems.
The ideal candidate is an experienced organizer with a track record of leading advocacy campaigns that build community leadership. They are a flexible trainer and facilitator clear on how to grow the capacity of staff and volunteer teams. They can analyze progress-to-goal metrics and steer their team to greater outcomes, integrating a strong data backbone with creative, people-centered organizing. They recognize the role that racism, classism, sexism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, and other violent systems have on health disparities and they are ready to help cultivate an organizing program for and by the people most impacted by sexual and reproductive health policy.
Work Conditions: Location, Travel, Physical Requirements: Flexible location in Missouri or southwestern Illinois. This position requires travel, including overnight travel, throughout Missouri and southern Illinois, and occasionally outside the region. Some evening and weekend hours are required. Required physical activities include work outdoors in all seasons, canvassing, and long periods on the computer and phone.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Organizing Leadership
● Work closely with the Director of Policy and Advocacy and the Legislative Director to help set organizing strategy and design campaigns
● Implement the affiliate’s organizing strategy in partnership with the Organizers
○ Power-Building: Build regional leadership teams and grow the base of supporters taking action for reproductive freedom
○ Cross-Movement: Build coalition relationships and solidarity through action
○ Policy: Organize people impacted by policy to participate powerfully in the legislative process
○ Electoral: Move voters to support Advocates’ endorsed candidates and issues
● Fill in to support on-the-ground organizing as needed
Training and Coaching
● Work with the Director of Policy and Advocacy to lead onboarding for new organizing staff
● Build capacity by identifying training gaps and opportunities and building staff skills through group and individual training and coaching
● Check in regularly with organizing staff
Organizing Systems and Data
● Ensure high-quality supporter data in line with best practices and compliance standards
● Manage VAN, the SMS platform Hustle, and other systems, providing day-to-day staff support
● Use metrics and data analysis to help set goals, track progress, surface needs, and make recommendations
Coalition and Cross-Movement Work
● Cultivate collaborative relationships with impacted stakeholders, coalition partners, and (potential) allies; seek opportunities to support and ally with other groups
Administrative
● Day-to-day staff management
● Coordinate team needs like supply orders and travel logistics
● Support department Directors and VP as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
● Passion for political advocacy and Planned Parenthood’s mission
● Experience planning, managing and implementing grassroots organizing and advocacy campaigns
● Experience training, coaching, and managing others to success
● Experience with VAN, reporting data in excel/ google sheets, and training others on organizing technology; Robust experience in these areas is ideal, but we can train the right candidate
● Resourceful self-starter with a high level of creative initiative
● Ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet deadlines with a rapidly-evolving workflow
● Effective rapport-building, conflict resolution, and emotional intelligence
● Team player skilled at collaborating across teams, departments, and organizations
● Effective written communicator able to write and edit for many audiences
● Comfort and efficacy as a trainer and public speaker
● Commitment to equity, appreciation of diverse groups, and sensitivity to and ability to navigate cultural differences
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND RISK MANAGEMENT
● Adhere to PPSLRSWMO policies that ensure the provision of the highest quality and most professional services to all PPSLRSWMO clients
● Ensure compliance with conditions of 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) guidelines for approved activities
● Protect PPSLRSWMO assets from liability
● Ensure the physical safety of PPSLRSWMO clients and staff
● Protect the confidentiality of Missouri Planned Parenthood clients, donors, board, and all areas of operation
