Reporting to the Director of Sykes Union and Student Activities, the Operations Coordinator serves as an integral part of the daily operation of Sykes Student Union, The Science and Engineering Center & The Commons (SECC) and the ballrooms. This position manages both facilities and operations including working closely with Sykes Union student staff, acting as an ambassador during events; and coordinating in-house audio and visual production services and process improvements.
 
Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide logistical support for events held Sykes Student Union, The Science and Engineering Center & The Commons (SECC) and the ballrooms
  • Provide logistical support for occasional outdoor programs
  • Collaborate with Public Safety, Physical Plant, Moving Services, Custodial Services, Campus Dining Service, and other members of the campus community
  • Maintain audio visual and technology equipment for day-to-day and specialized programming needs in Sykes Student Union
  • Research and prepare proposals to expand audio visual capability in Sykes Student Union
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of trends and best practices in student unions and higher education
  • Assess project needs for the department
  • Utilize scheduling software system (25Live) to efficiently manage space
  • Change reservations as necessary for efficient operation of the spaces
  • Serve as part of the Sykes Union and Student Activities Team, providing insight and recommendations in strategic planning, financial issues, student development, and departmental oversight
  • Serve on various divisional and university wide committees
  • Advise and train faculty, staff, and students
  • Supervise student staff in both Sykes Student Union and SECC spaces

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting:
    • House and portable sound equipment
    • Event lighting and projectors
    • Classroom Media and audio-visual equipment
    • Video and phone conferencing equipment

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, or related field
  • Background in technical theater, hospitality, student center/union operations, conference and event services, or related field
  • Experience with contract riders and coordination with production companies
  • Experience providing work direction and supervision
  • Experience advising and training both staff and students
  • Experience with scheduling software including 25Live and/or EMS
  • Superior customer service skills
