The Challenge
The NCDOT HBCU/MSI Fellows Program offers real experience and learning opportunities to 14 recent college graduates (<3 years from graduation) who earned a Bachelors/Masters degree from an HBCU/MSI.
All majors are welcome to apply especially those in:
- Engineering
- Public administration
- Business administration
- Marketing
- English/Journalism
- Planning and Project Management
While all graduates from HBCU/MSIs are invited to apply, we actively encourage candidates from NC HBCU/MSI’s:

As an NCDOT Fellow, you will engage in a 2-year fellowship with two 11-month rotations with select NCDOT business units. In this case, it’s the NCDOT Office of Civil Rights! You will gain hands-on experience in the transportation industry, learn new business skills, and further your skills and knowledge advancing smart transportation. You will forge relationships with NCDOT professionals and gain critical hard and soft skills to advance your career.

- Bachelor/Master’s degree earned from an HBCU/MSI within the past 3 years.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; team-orientation; collaborative; and adaptive to change.
- Problem solving skills.
- North Carolina resident with a legal right to work in the US without visa sponsorship.
- Prior work/classroom experience in the fellowship area(s) of interest is preferred.
