What We Can Achieve Together:
The Nature Bonds Conservation Director holds a critical position in directing conservation strategies and processes within the Nature Bonds Program under Global Protect Oceans, Lands, and Waters. The Conservation Director has a key leadership role advising on the direction of the Nature Bonds Program, guiding the Program’s conservation strategy, and lead our matrix team to achieve the conservation outcomes of the program without supervisory authority.
The Conservation Director will represent the Nature Bonds program externally with governments and other partners and may support fundraising. The Nature Bonds Conservation Director will engage with key government stakeholders to develop, negotiate, and assess the completion of conservation commitments.
This role ensures the effective integration of global conservation best practices and science across Nature Bonds projects. Responsibilities include overseeing and directing processes related to project prioritization, conservation scoping, drafting and decision-making, capacity and resource allocation, risk assessment, and internal approvals. The Conservation Director will oversee program conservation practice standards while aligning with the Global Director and Project Managers/Directors to ensure consistent conservation processes and deliverables across Nature Bonds Projects. The Conservation Director will be responsible for managing and mitigating the program’s organizational risks pertaining to conservation outcomes and ensuring consistently high conservation standards for Nature Bonds projects.
The Conservation Director will lead science and conservation capacity and resource identification in close coordination with the Global Protect Science Lead to ensure portfolio delivery across Nature Bonds projects for all themes (Climate, Terrestrial, Freshwater, Marine), while directing priorities and project needs. The Conservation Director will oversee all Conservation work across the Nature Bonds Program, while working with the different theme leads, the Chief Conservation Office, and Division/Regional units on aligning Nature Bonds Program contributions to TNC 2030 targets, metrics, and approaches. The Nature Bonds Global Conservation Director reports to Nature Bonds Global Director, and it requires willingness and ability to travel up to 50% both domestically and internationally.

By joining our Global Protect Oceans, Lands and Water team, you will become part of a group of dedicated globally dispersed group who are leading conservation efforts on multiple fronts and who bring science, strategy, and action together. We work closely with teams from across the organization and partners to deliver a representative, durable, effective, resilient, and inclusive 30×30 vision.
We’re looking for an individual with experience leading without supervisory authority and directing diverse teams of practitioners seeking to achieve 30×30 protection goals. You would be part of a team with dedicated efforts to impact conservation throughout the world.
What You’ll Bring:
- Master’s Degree in conservation, environment, or science related field and 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Supervisory experience, including dotted line and matrixed systems/teams.
- Experience directing a major program of strategic importance and working with a multi-disciplinary team.
- Experience in relationship building with peers, partners, government agencies, etc.
- Experience working internationally.
- Experience with project management skills and meeting deadlines.
- Experience with monitoring, evaluation and learning related to program targets and metrics.
- Excellent communication skills, written, spoken and graphical.

Salary Information:
This position may be based in any country where TNC has an established entity, taking into consideration legal restrictions, such as non-national ratios and immigration processing times. For U.S. based applicants only, the starting pay range for this position is generally within the range of $115,000 – $172,000 for annual base salary and is based on location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. For all other applicants, pay ranges will be in local currency, the pay range will be based on the local labor market, and not tied to the above pay range. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment and used to determine your actual pay range. Additionally, for all applicants, actual pay will fall within a range based on a variety of factors including, for example, the candidate’s qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
