Job Description

Job Title: Midcoast Child Advocacy Center (MCAC) Forensic Interviewer 

Job Status: Regular (40hours); Based in Rockland/Belfast, $20/hr, Estimated $41,600 annually. 

Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for the forensic interview of children at the MCAC site(s); and administrative support of MCAC program functioning and development. 

Representative Duties: 

Forensic Interviewing 

  • Attend National Children’s Alliance (NCA) approved trainings for forensic interviewing. Curriculum must be included on NCA’s approved list of nationally or state recognized forensic interview trainings or submitted with the accreditation application 
  • Serve as one the MCAC staffed Forensic Interviewers and conduct forensic interview of children at the MCAC site(s)  
  • Maintain knowledge of ongoing research and best-practices in the field of child forensic interviewing, trauma, and child development 
  • Demonstrate participation in ongoing education in the field of child maltreatment and/or forensic interviewing consisting of a minimum of 8 contact hours every 2 years, as required by NCA Accreditation Standards 
  • Participate in structured peer review a minimum of 2 times a year 
  • Participate in the training and coordination of a team of trained Forensic Interviewers from the MCAC Multi-Disciplinary Team, to serve as back-up interviewers 
  • Ensure that all interviews conducted at the MCAC are conducted with a focus on the child using an approved interviewing protocol, such as the NCA’s Forensic Interviewing of Children Protocol  
  • Work on a multi-disciplinary team of child abuse professionals at the MCAC and during case reviews. 

Other 

  • Complete SASSMM 47 hours Advocate Training  
  • Assist in the coordination of the Midcoast Children’s Advocacy Center’s application for Accreditation (or alternative membership level) through NCA, as needed  
  • Assist with clerical duties, such as answering the phone, typing, filing, mailing, correspondence, meeting notices, etc. as needed 
  • Work a typical 8:30am-4:30pm M-F schedule, with occasional evening work hours 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or other related field, or related experience 
  • Familiarity with the dynamics of sexual assault and abuse 
  • Resourcefulness, energy, initiative and excellent organizational skills 
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and effective oral and written communication skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to community members and agency personnel in an effective, mature and professional manner 
  • Ability to relate to survivors in an empathic, patient, and non-judgmental manner 
  • Computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, power point 
  • Have access to transportation 

Accountability: Accountable to MCAC Program Coordinator for all CAC programming. Accountable to the Executive Director regarding all agency programming and operations.
