SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
Located just outside of Seattle, WA, Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) was founded in 1949, and is the only public institute of technology in Washington State, that provides students with the latest cutting edge skills relevant to today’s workplace. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
LWTech’s Student Development Services is searching for a culturally responsive and collaborative licensed mental health professional to provide short-term mental health counseling and crisis intervention to students from a wide variety of ages, educational experiences and goals, racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic status’. This is a represented faculty position that works under general and infrequent supervision and reports to the Director of Student Development.

Support:
This position is the sole full-time mental health provider at the college. Administrative supervision is provided by a supportive but non-clinically trained administrator. Support is provided for administrative and scheduling needs. The counselor serves on a mental health aware and supportive team. LWTech will support the successful applicant in connecting to and ensuring time is allocated to a clinical consultation group for confidential case staffing if the applicant does not already have this in place.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Mental Health Counseling

• Provide culturally responsive short-term individual and group counseling to enrolled LWTech students – generally 50+ students per quarter or approximately 200 appointments per quarter
• Establish positive, trusting rapport with students
• Provide crisis counseling and assessment for students in distress during regular business hours
• Follow all safety protocols and maintain client confidentiality
• Refer students to outside specialists or agencies when appropriate and necessary
• Develop and maintain community resources for student referrals
• Maintain knowledge of and make effective referrals to campus resources, most commonly Disability Support Services, TRIO, Academic Advising, and Financial Aid
• Participates on college’s CARE team (Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation)

Administrative

• Take part in professional development activities in field of expertise and demonstrate current knowledge and skills
• May provide supervision to student interns
• May participate in college, division, and department meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities
• Maintain case notes and counseling files in SimplePractice or similar database tool
• Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and License:

• Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, or directly related field; at least 6 months of directly related experience which may include internship and/or practicum.
• Certification/Licensure in Washington State as LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent level, OR licensed out of state and eligible for WA licensure. Associate level not accepted

Technology Proficiency:

• Microsoft Office for email, scheduling and calendar management, creation and editing of documents, presentations, and spreadsheets
• Zoom, Teams, or other video conferencing software to provide virtual/remote services
• Previous success learning new computer software programs and platforms
• Familiarity with electronic health record systems
• Familiarity with telehealth delivery platforms

Counseling Skills:

• Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility and culturally responsive counseling using a brief approach
• Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and/or mental health counseling ethics, principles, methods, procedures, and standards
• Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
• Knowledge of community mental health resources
• Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically, and exercise independent judgement

Leadership & Communication:

• Ability to communicate with compassion and empathy
• Strong interpersonal, written, oral, and listening communication skills with ability to build rapport quickly
• Strong ability to manage time and prioritize tasks, including quick email responses
• Ability to work independently as sole full-time mental health provider on campus
• Detail oriented

Preferred Qualifications

• Work experience in a college or educational setting
• Qualified to provide clinical supervision to masters leveling counseling interns

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Compensation & Work Schedule Placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience. This positions ranges from $79,504-$87,146 per year; salary is for an academic year (173 days) and as may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Additionally, a summer quarter contract will be issued for this position. Salary for the summer quarter is a per diem rate based on annual salary. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position.

The Student Development Services office hours are typically Monday through Friday between 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, with two days per week of evening services until 6 p.m. Hybrid schedules to work both on campus and from home are supported.
