Full-Time Medical Assistant
Job Description
Job Purpose:
The Medical Assistant (MA) works directly with Providers and the healthcare team to provide high-quality care and customer service to patients, clients, and community members. The MA will work in one or both outpatient Primary Care clinics and with individuals of all ages. This position will utilize clinical skills daily to assist with direct patient care and advocate for patients in an effort to meet their needs.
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Take vital signs and intake while “rooming” a patient.
- Follow standing orders,, within scope of training perform Point-of-Care (POC) tests, and schedule screenings, including:
- Draw-up and administer immunizations.
- Perform EKG readings.
- Appropriate collection of specimens and specimen handling and storage.
- Perform venipuncture.
- Perform controls on any POC tests.
- Provide patient education and instruction for examinations.
- Assist with patient registration and check in
- Perform chart-prep prior to patient appointments.
- Perform support tasks such as answering patient calls, assisting other clinical staff as needed, and scheduling and confirming patient appointments.
- Prepare form completion to hand off to the Provider.
- Process medication refill requests as ordered by Provider.
- Attend staff meetings, weekly back-office meetings, and training.
- Assist providers with gathering any needed supplies, including PPE.
- Complete other related duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- Medical Assisting Certificate; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Two or more years of related experience as an MA.
- Medical Assistant Certification, highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- General knowledge of clinical terminology and normal ranges for vital signs.
- All clinical skills covered in MA programs including: administering medications including injections, venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection and handling, taking accurate vital signs, and hygiene.
- Reliable, accountable, and thorough.
- Fluency in Vietnamese, Spanish, or Mandarin preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate well with people of diverse cultural professional and experiential backgrounds.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
