Position Title: Media Director
Position Location: Remote (Washington D.C area strongly preferred)
Salary Range: $110-$120k/yr
The Opportunity:
Faith in Public Life (FPL) is a progressive multifaith, multiracial organization seeking a full-time Media
Director to work closely on earned media for a wide range of campaigns and help us build an effective
communications department and program. We are looking for a Media Director to implement an earned
and paid media strategy, including rapid response, op-eds, press conferences, and more. The goal of the
Media Director’s work is to advance a coordinated set of state and federal campaigns, raise the visibility
of faith leaders within our movements, and increase the profile of FPL.

communications strategy and narrative shaping around faith and public policy. Our team leverages
compelling faith leader moral voices, cutting-edge message research; organizing and knowledge of the
faith and political landscape to build momentum and support for complex ethical issues. Our team seeks
to counter Christian Right narratives and communicate in culturally compelling ways to impact decision-
makers and stakeholders.
Our campaigns take on the leading moral issues of our time– racial and economic equity, voting rights,
saving our democracy, and reproductive justice
Position Responsibilities:
• Develops and implements a comprehensive earned media strategy for each of our strategic
priorities nationally and locally, working alongside the digital and organizing departments;
• Prioritizes earned media opportunities in a competitive, opportunity-rich environment;
• Engages in key rapid response moments, drafting press releases, statements, quote docs, etc. as
well as working closely with the Messaging Director and Digital Director to capture rapid
response moments in a compelling way across all platforms;
• Oversees the organization’s press outreach, writing press releases, statements, and op-eds;
• Oversees press conferences;
• Develops talking points for FPL faith leaders and our CEO in coordination with our Messaging +
Engagement Director as well as other relevant staff;
• Develops a plan for drafting and placement of timely op-eds and blog posts to advance our issues;
• Ensures consistent branding of materials across all earned media collateral;
• Crafts a public presence for FPL and its work;
• Manages, develops, and expands a team of one, currently our Communications Associate.
Position Qualifications:
• Seven or more years of communications strategy experience, preferably working with a nonprofit
with involvement in political or advocacy campaigns
• Commitment to social, racial, economic, and gender justice
• A strong understanding of the ever-expanding and changing media landscape
• Understand what is needed to build a 21st Century communications team equipped to use the full
suite of tools available to advance our campaign priorities
• Experience leading and managing the communications strategies and campaigns function for an
advocacy organization, political campaign, elected officials, or union/community organizing
projects.
• Ability to balance long and short-term communications needs, triaging and prioritizing requests
for support
• Experience in a supervisory role.
• Enthusiasm for the impact unique faith voices can have and for supporting faith leader voices
• Superb writing and editing skills
• Strong project management skills.
