Full-Time Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

RND Automation, a rapidly expanding robotic automation, assembly & packaging equipment company is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer in Lakewood Ranch Florida.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

The Mechanical Design Engineer works with a team of other electrical and mechanical engineers, to design, debug, and manufacturer packaging equipment and custom automation.  To this goal, it is this positions responsibility to brainstorm mechanical concepts, create mechanical designs in 3D software, detail design parts, create a BOM for purchasing, analyze and correct redline prints, troubleshoot and debug mechanical designs, and determine material and component specifications based on job requirements.  This requires following RND standards for both process and component selection, as well as helping to set/modify those standards with the team, when needed.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Develop all aspects of the mechanical design, utilizing AutoDesk Inventor.
  • Perform all calculations required to determine what components are required for the function of the machine.
  • Detail manufactured/machined parts per RND detailing standards. Redline parts as requested from the assembly process.
  • Keep current and apply all safety and mechanical regulations as required by the location of the machine as well as the customer’s specifications.
  • Select components for the machines based on customer standards, RND’s standards, and per project proposal, using good practice and being conscious of project budget.
  • Develop new procedures to reduce mechanical assembly phase timeline.
  • Act as the technical liaison between design and assembly to solve technical problems related to mechanical design.
  • Create mechanical bill of materials
  • Perform test, de-bug and set up of devices
  • Utilize proper design techniques and follow ANSI guidelines
  • Work with assembly team to ensure designs are being assembled as intended
  • Maintain and help to set standards for mechanical component selection and use
  • Actively participate in project design reviews and huddles

 

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or have completed a formalized technical vocational training with 3+ years’ experience in machine design and automation, and 1+ years experience with Autodesk Inventor.
