Job Description
The Role
Ark Teacher Training is an ‘Outstanding’ teacher training programme offering the perfect mixture of theory and classroom practice to develop you into the best teacher you can be. We believe that every child, regardless of their background, deserves to have access to a great education, which is why we work mainly in areas of low income with a history of academic underachievement.
You’ll be based at Ark Victoria Academy in Small Heath, Bimirngham spending the whole academic year watching your students progress. At the end of your training year, you’ll have achieved the following:
- QTS (Qualified Teacher Status)
- PGCE (postgraduate certificate in education) in your chosen teaching subject
Key responsibilities
To engage in daily professional development activities.
- To plan, resource and deliver maths lessons to the highest possible standard that ensure learning and progress of pupils
- To provide a nurturing classroom and academy environment that helps students to develop as learners
- To help to maintain/establish discipline across the whole school
- To contribute to the effective working of the school.
Outcomes and Activities
Engage in daily professional development activities in order to develop appropriate knowledge and skills that enable you to:
- set high expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge pupils
- promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
- demonstrate good subject and curriculum knowledge
- plan and teach well-structured lessons
- adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
- make accurate and productive use of assessment
- manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
- fulfil wider professional responsibilities.
Qualification criteria
- A grade C or above in GCSE English and Mathematics, or equivalent qualification
- A degree from a UK Higher Education institution or equivalent
- A-levels or equivalent in maths
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK

- Ability to demonstrate consistently high standards of personal and professional conduct
- Ability to empathise and think strategically
- Good communicator
- Strong planning and organisational skills
- Strong subject knowledge in maths
- High expectations of themselves and a strong belief in the potential of every child
