We’re investing in our Maths and English team and are looking to appoint inspirational GCSE Maths teachers to teach our students who are at college studying vocational qualifications.
Many of our students come to college having struggled with English and maths in school and unable to secure a Grade 4 pass in Year 11 as a result – we recognise the importance of these key skills and our mission is to ensure they can leave college with both their vocational qualifications and essential English and maths, ready and able to progress into their career of choice. Our English and maths faculty consists of highly skilled practitioners who are passionate about changing young peoples’ experiences of their subjects, finding ways to engage with them and bring the curriculum to life in ways that make sense to our students, so that they can achieve well and progress into work or continued education. If being part of this exceptional team interests you, whether you are an experienced English or maths teacher, a recent graduate or an industry professional looking to start their career in teaching, we want to hear from you.
Teaching maths in college differs from teaching them in a school; for a start, there is no lunchtime supervision, tutor groups or pastoral support to worry about as our structure ensures there are other roles that provide this support to students. Across the team we share resources too, so the workload for everyone is reduced. We teach mainly GCSEs, although Functional Skills is used for some learners, depending on their chosen industry, and although most students have studied to GCSE level before, they may have achieved anywhere from a Grade 1 to a Grade 3, so finding ways to quickly assess knowledge and address gaps in learning is essential.
Not yet a teacher?
While possessing a teaching qualification is advantageous, the college offers training opportunities and we are committed to supporting you on your path to becoming a qualified teacher, providing the necessary assistance along the way. If you are considering a career change, you can find out more about teaching in the Further Education sector here.
