Full-Time Materials Technician
Job Description
- Sample, test, and inspect materials on highway construction projects across Division 1 to ensure they meet standards and specifications.
- Perform assessments of producer/contractor technicians to ensure that they are performing quality control and acceptance testing according to standards and specifications.
- Provide instruction in NCDOT certification programs.
- Demonstrated ability to assess technicians’ testing proficiency to ensure compliance with established testing methods.
- Experience evaluating and reviewing inspectors’ reports related to compliance with specifications.
- Experience working in close quarters with restricted movement, climbing bridge substructures, working over water, or over and around high volumes of traffic.
- Computer and software experience.
- Ability to safely navigate hazardous work situations at highway construction projects and material/product stockpiles while following established in-house safety procedures.
- Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related field, and
- 3+ years of relevant technician experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge, experience, and certification in sampling and testing of asphalt, aggregate, concrete, and soils materials used in highway construction.
- Knowledge and experience with HiCAMS database.
