Full-Time Marketing and Communications Director
Job Description
The City of Worcester seeks qualified applicants for a Marketing and Communications Director for the Executive Office of the City Manager. Under the direction of the City Manager, the position will oversee the direction and management of the City of Worcester’s Communications Office. The Communications Office supports all sixteen departments within the municipal organization, including brand activation, creation and execution of marketing campaigns, internal and external communication, audience engagement, media relations, content creation, digital and social media management, speech and editorial writing, report development, project management, and event coordination. Night and weekend availability may be required for meetings and/or events outside of normal business hours.

ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS:
- Develop marketing and communications strategies and plans intended to strengthen the municipalities public trust, brand, and social capital
- Storytelling to reinforcing the municipality’s mission, vision, and values
- Enforcement of City brand guidelines
- Oversee an office of seven team members with various areas of expertise: media and public relations, content creation, social and digital media, graphic design, speech, editorial and copy writing, etc.
- Project and budget management
- Lead the divisions Strategic Planning efforts in assessing current goals, objectives, strategies, performance, and setting new goals and performance metrics for division
- Conduct and approve all performance evaluations of division staff
- Approve all positions and direct the hiring, training, and motivational activities of the division staff
- Ensure compliance with laws and policy governing the municipality relative to the functions of the office
- Collaborate with partner agencies and Department/Division heads on inter-departmental initiatives
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Extensive professional writing skills and excellent verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Strategic thinker with the ability to lead
- Knowledge and experience working with various technologies, including; Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and social media publishing;
- Knowledge about current marketing and communications trends
- Flexible with the ability to adapt and pivot work priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally, graphically, and in writing) with diverse audiences
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast paced work environment; ability to meet strict deadlines
- Ability to use initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines and procedures
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Communications or related discipline;
- Five (5) years of related work experience; OR,
- An equivalent combination of education, training and seven (7) years of experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job will be considered in lieu of the above-mentioned requirements.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Prior experience developing marketing plans and communications for diverse audiences.
- Prior supervisory experience
- Proficient with computers, including Adobe Suites, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in Marketing, Communications or related discipline.
- Two (2) years of experience working in a municipal/government setting
- Two (2) years of supervisory experience
- Two (2) years of experience with project and budget management
- Experience with Workday
SALARY RANGE: $94,464 – $109,491 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
