Full-Time Market Research and Competitive Intelligence Manager

Job Description

The Manager, Market Research and Competitive Intelligence resides within the Analytics and Insights team, which is part of company’s Commercial Operations organization. The position acts as the primary point of contact for key primary and secondary market research and competitive intelligence work, in support of company’s Business Units (BU).

This role is based out of Parsippany, New Jersey and primarily focused on the US market.

The role reports to the Associate Director, Market Research and Competitive Intelligence and interacts on a day-to-day basis with the Analytics and Insights team and the business units to understand critical business needs and challenges and to define approaches in support of business needs. This position is responsible for conceptualizing and executing primary and secondary market research and competitive intelligence projects, managing vendors and partners for successful study execution and analyzing research output to help drive data-based decision making and provide actionable insights to the BU heads and brand managers.

  • Lead and manage primary (qualitative and quantitative) research projects to efficiently deliver creative, customer and market-based input on strategic and tactical business issues
  • Develop, design and execute standard research methodologies, partnering with Commercial Operations team members and outside vendors to customize research design and methodologies where appropriate
  • Synthesize data from multiple sources and develop realistic, insightful and actionable recommendations for business stakeholders, and present data/recommendations in a coherent, meaningful way
  • Prepare presentations, deliver research findings, derive actionable insights and make strategic recommendations
  • Evaluate, select and manage vendors to ensure the execution success of primary research and competitive intelligence projects. Includes setting up vendor bids and awarding vendor contracts.
  • Partner, manage and provide comprehensive competitive intelligence support to sales, marketing, new product development, and business development functions
  • Effectively prioritize assignments in line with business priorities
  • Work closely with internal cross-functional teams (Marketing, Customer Engagement, Medical, New Product / BD, Sales and Market Access) and represent the Market Research and Competitive Intelligence function on key internal business teams and work streams

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required, in Marketing, Business, Market Research, other Scientific degrees or equivalent; Advanced degree (MBA, etc.) is a plus
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience, i.e. in market research and/or competitive intelligence
  • Pharmaceutical industry experience strongly desired; therapeutic category knowledge for relevant job scope strongly desired
  • Experience in the key functional areas of market research, including design and analysis of primary market research and secondary data analysis
  • Experience conducting competitive intelligence work, for pharmaceutical products in various stages of product lifecycle
  • Experience with brands in phases leading up to and at launch
  • Ability to derive insights by combining primary and secondary market research and syndicated data
  • Experience with research vendor selection and management for primary, secondary, qualitative, quantitative and sales and performance data
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex problems/data gathered from a variety of sources and use the data to develop key recommendations
  • Ability to communicate and present insights based on data analytics
  • Experience in project management and vendor management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, balance multiple projects simultaneously and work independently to deliver timely and accurate information and analyses
  • Intellectually curious with a growth mindset
  • Strong, concise and impactful written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong collaboration skills in a matrixed environment
