Job Description
Manufacturing Engineer
Works under limited supervision and with professionals from engineering, manufacturing, materials, and product management on Intevac products. Coordinates manufacturing engineering requirements in product improvement and new product introduction activities. Develops, implements, and maintains bills of materials, operation sequences, and manufacturing/materials flow processes in the fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies and final assemblies for products transitioning from engineering to manufacturing. Utilizes work methods, procedures and policies. Gathers operational and test data and evaluates results. Provides support to pilot production for new products and resolves manufacturing issues to ensure rapid and effective transition to volume manufacturing. Assists engineering in the use of DFx principles in product design and cost reduction. Perform other duties as assigned. Duties may vary according to the project progress and/or specific goal and objectives.
Requirements
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 8 years in a manufacturing engineering role
- Experience with and understanding of DFx Engineering Principles, New Product Development Processes, and Product Safety Design Requirements.
- Detail oriented with strong record-keeping and organizational skills
- Proficient in complex electro-mechanical system design
- Understand GD&T & GR&R principles
- Understand the product configurations and BoM structure
- Experience in and strong knowledge of Change Management, Problem Solving & Trouble Shooting, Communication Skills, Product Technology, Customer Orientation, Personal Effectiveness, Project Management, Team Skills, and Quality and Organization Skills.
- Proficient in use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, ECO Writing, and Flowcharting.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with and understanding of Sheet Metal Fabrication, Metal Working/Machining, Plastic Manufacturing, Plumbing/Piping Fabrication, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Analysis, Test and Tooling Specification and Development.
- Proficient in use of MS Project and CAD software (AutoCAD, Solid Works, and/or Pro-Engineer).
Responsibilities:
- Design production lines for product flow, ergonomics and efficiency, scalability, standardization, and continuous quality monitoring.
- Design, procurement, construction, simulation and deployment of manufacturing equipment for low volume, high mix production.
- In-house development of workstations, manufacturing equipment and fixtures
- Management of suppliers during specification, design, buyoff and installation of manufacturing equipment
- Characterization and validation of new equipment and fixtures for introduction to the production floor
- Participate in early prototype equipment builds to characterize and develop both equipment and processes
- Provide Design for Manufacturing feed-back to Product Design Engineering team
- Development of new manufacturing processes, process sequences, and process recipes
- Creation of detailed Manufacturing and test Instructions to support new processes and equipment
- Perform process analysis including PFMEA and capacity modeling
- Support implementation of product traceability and shop floor tracking
