Overall Responsibilities
Establish and support systems to ensure quality manufacturing of products as defined by Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Communicate, educate, and support the quality requirements to all operational departments. Ensure appropriate compliance to all relevant regulatory requirements associated with the manufacturing, testing, packaging, storage and testing of products. Manage all quality functions and personnel related to quality activities.
Specific Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Act as the qualified person (as defined under section C.02.006 of GMP guidelines) in the release of finished product
- Manage the budget for the QA department
- Team oriented approach and strong focus on talent development and performance management within the team.
- Collaborate with external partners to continue to advance our quality systems/methodologies.
- Investigate out of specification trends and implement preventive actions.
- Continually monitor GMP and other regulatory requirements for food products, drug products and natural health products
- Analyze the gap between regulatory GMP requirements and operational systems
- Consult and advise functional departments on establishing systems to eliminate GMP gaps
- Manage all quality functions and personnel related to the manufacturing, testing, packaging, storage and testing of products
- Escalates critical deviations and product quality concerns to senior management in a timely manner
- Ensure timely, effective communication, escalation, and resolution of quality issues
- Manage specifications for testing and releasing of incoming raw materials and outgoing products
- Oversee development of product structures and all quality functions within the manufacturing and inventory software system
- Oversee development and use of Quality Systems tracking database
- Make final decisions on critical non-conformances and rejections and determine product rejection disposition options
- Liaison with all departments and subsidiary companies to support the production, sale, and marketing cycle
- Communicate key quality performance indicators effectively across the organization
- Participate in the handling of customer complaints and responses as it relates to quality
- Manage customer requests for technical information relating to quality
- Provide consultation on quality requirements concerning manufacturing, third party customers, and government
- Manage quality audits and technical tours
- Provide quality input on R&D projects
- Participate in validation planning and execution
- Approve master equipment calibration specifications and review outside contractor calibration reports
- Coordinate annual plant wide GMP and new hire GMP training
- Manage technical protocols and reports as they pertain to quality
- Working in compliance with the company’s Health & Safety Policies/SOPs including but not limited to the Safety Responsibilities Procedure
- Will comply with Good Manufacturing Practices in all GMP sensitive areas of Jamieson Laboratories Ltd. facilities
- Other duties and projects as required
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science related field from an accredited post-secondary institution
- Minimum five (5) years practical quality department experience in a pharmaceutical, nutritional, food, or health products manufacturing environment
- Comprehensive knowledge of manufacturing operations and GMP
- Proven track record of being a solutions-based thinker with a history of implementing creative solutions in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment an asset
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical, food and natural health product regulations
- Superior communication and management skills
- Commitment to continuous professional development
- Self-starter and critical thinker
- Excellent leadership skills, problem solving skills and decision-making skills
- Proficient with computers
- Experience with manufacturing and inventory management software, LIMS software systems, and other QA tracking database systems an asset
- Team oriented focus and coaching management style an asset
