Major Gifts Officer General Duties: Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Major Gifts Officer will serve as a frontline fundraiser and execute key donor engagement strategies to build and expand the major gifts pipeline. The key to success in this role will be identifying and building relationships with new prospects, as well as strengthening relationships with existing donors to maximize philanthropic support. This individual will also work with GSCO board members and staff leaders to coordinate and execute long-term fundraising initiatives.

 

This role will involve primarily in-person interaction within the Denver Metro area, with occasional travel to various front range communities and across the state of Colorado.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build out a major gifts program at GSCO by developing a donor solicitation strategy for major gift prospects.
  • Manage an active portfolio of 100-150 major gift prospects.
  • Identify and qualify new major gift prospects and create a comprehensive strategy for donor cultivation, solicitation, and retention based on the donor’s giving history and capacity.
  • Grow relationships with major gifts prospects.
  • Directly solicit major gifts and partner with leadership, senior staff, and volunteers on solicitations by providing prospect briefings, strategic guidance, and assistance with donor communications.
  • Develop, plan, and participate in strategic donor engagement opportunities, such as small events for select prospects in the portfolio and larger donor stewardship events.
  • Develop a high-quality donor experience through regular correspondence, professional proposals, and timely acknowledgements.
  • Identify, build, and assess major gift fundraising metrics.
  • Track prospect activity in database and maintain regular reports that accurately reflect progress toward building relationships and increasing donor support.
  • Represent GSCO at external functions and events.

 

PRIMARY CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • In accordance with the philosophy of Girl Scouts of Colorado, the person filling this position may occasionally be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed on this job description.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education and/or Formal Training

  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • CFRE preferred.

 

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in major gift development.
  • A proven track record of soliciting and closing major gifts ($5,000+).
  • Experience in relationship-based fundraising with an intentional focus on cultivation, stewardship, and building personal relationships with philanthropists and the organization to secure major gifts.
  • Experience developing and executing fundraising strategies.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies including staff, board members, and donors with varying levels of philanthropic sophistication.
  • Knowledge of and experience using prospect research tools, gift calculators and donor CRM software (Blackbaud NXT experience preferred).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet concurrent deadlines, organize time and priorities, and to do so in collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of discretion with respect to confidential information.
  • Superior knowledge and command of Microsoft Office products.
  • A strong customer service ethic and high expectations for quality.
  • A high degree of integrity, initiative, and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to travel 15% of the time, primarily within Colorado.
  • Must be a self-starter.
  • Ability to work independently but also contribute to overall department projects (special events, etc.)
  • Must have a passion for youth-development and elevating girls and young women.

 

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check acceptable to GSCO standards.
  • Access to registered transportation with insurance at required state levels to conduct business statewide.
  • Valid driver’s license and driving record acceptable to the Girl Scout insurance company standards.

 

Salary:

This position pays a salaried range of $70,000-$90,000/year.
