Judi’s House/JAG Institute (JH/JAG) is the only free-standing organization in Metro Denver devoted solely to supporting grieving youth and families through comprehensive care, research, education, and advocacy. Since 2002, JH/JAG has supported nearly 12,000 individuals, and educated many thousands more, toward the vision that no child should be alone in grief. The Comprehensive Grief Care® programs and services delivered by Judi’s House are offered to the community completely free of charge and our Major Gifts Officer plays an important role in obtaining ongoing philanthropic support from generous individuals, corporations, and foundations. A successful candidate will be responsible for shaping donor stewardship efforts, deepening the prospective donor pipeline, and maintaining accurate and up to date information on organization goals, donors, and prospects.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist donors in accomplishing their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
  • Maintain a working portfolio of individual major gift prospects and current donors with the goal of raising at least $850,000 annually, by securing major gifts ($5,000+).
  • Conduct personal visits with major donors and prospects, scheduling a minimum of 8-10 significant visits monthly for the purpose of field research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Develop individual donor strategies, along with materials, to renew and upgrade donor gifts.
  • Prepare written proposals, gift agreements, funder pitches, and other materials needed to define, secure and document major gifts.
  • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.
  • Collaborate with the department to enhance relationships and create greater fundraising and outreach possibilities.
  • Create and implement moves management plans custom to donor interests.
  • Participate in each step of the donor pipeline including identification; qualification through research; cultivation; briefing; request for support; and prompt follow up, stewardship, and recognition.
  • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
  • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
  • Manage capital campaign payments to the conclusion of pledge term, steward capital donors, provide relevant reporting to internal stakeholders.
  • Oversee management of giving societies and annual stewardship plan.
  • Participate in database management including but not limited to: query building, gift processing, acknowledgement process, and report generation.
  • Attend team and organizational meetings, activities, and events as required.

Requirements, skills, and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years in fundraising.
  • Experience with donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and building robust relationships with gifts of six figures and greater.
  • Knowledge of planned gifts and endowments.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a proven ability to engage, motivate and inspire others to action.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Unremitting optimism and positive attitude.
  • Desire to support the work of others, including both staff and volunteers, toward the accomplishment of an audacious goal.
  • Respectful and thoughtful about bereavement counseling and the impact of this process on the constituency served at Judi’s House.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor database management

The candidate selected for this position will work primarily in our Aurora location but is eligible to work remotely up to one day per week at the manager’s discretion.

This position will report to the Director of Philanthropy and Communications and will have extensive interaction with the CEO, organization founders, Board of Directors, and volunteer campaign committee.

Judi’s House offers a generous benefits package that includes major medical, dental, and vision coverage in addition to long-term disability, life insurance and 401k. Judi’s House promotes work-life balance with our Paid Time Off program along with other leave policies. The salary range for this position is $68,450 – $76,775.
