This is a 7 month position, April-October (exact start and end date may vary). This position includes housing at The Venture Out Project basecamp in VT.
Job Objectives:
Support Operations team on all day to day operations of trips at TVOP’s Basecamp, as well as courses in the field, to ensure the highest quality trip experience for TVOP participants.
- Management and supervision of gear library, upkeep and organization of gear, pre/post trip gear issue and de-issue
- Food prep duties: ordering food and consumable items, negotiating with vendors upkeep and organization of kitchen and pantry, food packing, store runs, and issuing food for trips
- Support Operations team on coordinating rides to/from trailhead and trip meeting location, airport pick up/drop offs, manage logistics to best meet the needs of participants
- Potential to assist in leading hikes, overnight trips, and other events (depending on experience)
- Act as TVOP liaison and brand ambassador through networking and collaboration opportunities
Primary Responsibilities:
80% Work cooperatively with Operations, Programs, and TVOP staff to ensure that the logistical needs of trips and are met:
- Work with Operations to assure all necessary purchases are made prior to, and during, each season
- Attend pre and post-trip meetings with Operations team and trip instructors
- Work with Operations Coordinator to compile all necessary gear, food, and transportation per the needs of trip participants
- Follow TVOP packing procedures to pack the correct quantity and style of gear based on trip type, weather conditions, etc..
- Manage participant needs, dietary needs and allergies, and pack the appropriate TVOP menu for each trip
- Oversee the issue and de-issue of gear, including the inventory of all supplies.
- Manage TVOP trip vehicle maintenance, including vehicle drop offs/pickups, cleaning interior/exterior, and other routine vehicle maintenance
- Maintain exceptional TVOP HQ organization, operation, and cleanliness
- Complete all repairs and maintenance of field equipment
- Work with Operations on pre and post-season inventory needs.
- Availability to be on-call and act as emergency contact while trips are in the field
15% Day Trips & Events
- Lead Day Hikes and/or Overnights (if interested and qualified)
- TVOP representative on collaborations (ie. day hike with Freedom for All Massachusetts)
- Tabling at conferences
5% Other duties as needed by TVOP
Job Requirements:
- Personal and professional values consistent with TVOP’s mission, values, and principles
- Must be able to drive a 15-passenger van or large SUV; Must maintain a clean Motor Vehicle Record
- Must be able to live on-site at TVOP’s Basecamp in Halifax, VT for the summer season
- Able to participate in all trip activities
- Able to lift 75 pounds
- Current WFR preferred
- Able to give and receive timely and effective oral and written feedback
- Effective leadership, supervisory, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Strong personal initiative, motivation, and resourcefulness
- Strong presentation, writing, and computer skills
- Business management skills including basic accounting, budget planning, and management
- Cooperative attitude and ability to be flexible
- Experience with queer community
- Backcountry travel experience
- Ability to work nights and weekends
- Ability to work independently
