Under the direction of the Firm’s Legislative Director, the Lobbying and Policy Intern will provide administrative and legislative assistance to our growing Lobbying and Policy practice group. Preferred applicants will have excellent research and writing skills, and previous experience working in the field of government relations and/or working on Capitol Hill. An interest in education, healthcare, and intellectual property policy is preferred and a Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred. The person selected for this position must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. This temporary, non-exempt position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
Job Responsibilities
- Monitor the US Congress, which would include tracking legislative activity and drafting write-ups of Congressional briefings, hearings, and markups.
- Prepare and draft reports on Congressional and federal regulatory activity.
- Conduct research using Bloomberg Government, Congress.gov, and other research databases.
- Prepare internal and external correspondence and other administrative duties as requested.
Job Requirements
This position has the following requirements:
- Ability to work approximately 30 hours a week for approximately 12 weeks.
- Must possess a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills so as to be able to work well with employees at all levels within the organization and maintain all information in the strictest of confidence. Required to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with others.
- Must have ability to read, write and communicate fluent English; ability to compose documents in the appropriate business style using correct grammar and spelling; ability to communicate clearly using proper grammar and diction over the telephone.
- Must possess attention to detail, ability to balance multiple projects and have strong time management skills.
- Must have ability to reason and apply common-sense understanding to situations encountered.
- Ability to process routine daily functions while being able to resolve sensitive issues and complex assignments utilizing above average critical thinking skills.
- The physical demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee in order for them to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. These include being both mobile and stationary throughout the workday, having the ability to transport 20 pounds, and being able to operate a computer and other business equipment found in the office.
