THE CITY OF WOODLAND INVITES YOUR APPLICATION FOR

LIGHT EQUIPMENT MECHANIC – FULL TIME

Current Salary: $4,082.78 – $5,210.78/mo. plus Excellent Benefits

THE POSITION

To service, maintain and repair automotive and other power-driven and mechanical equipment.  The purpose of this recruitment is to full a current vacancy in the Public Works Department, as well as establish an eligibility list for future vacancies.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Ideal Candidate will have extensive journey-level experience working on automobiles, light trucks and a variety of other construction equipment.   Candidates should have first-hand experience inspecting, diagnosing, maintaining and repairing light equipment, including mechanical, hydraulic, electrical and brake systems.  The Ideal Candidate will have good time management and communication skills, be organized and flexible, with the ability to move easily between tasks as necessary.  Candidate should be able to work with little supervision, yet be willing to seek input from others, and be a positive team contributor. Candidates who currently possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License are highly desirable.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Inspect, diagnose and locate mechanical difficulties on automobiles, light trucks and a variety of maintenance, lawn care and construction equipment.  Road test and diagnose vehicles, determine needed repairs or maintenance attention and schedule repairs.  Inspect and diagnose all mechanical, hydraulic, electrical systems.  Inspect operational and appearance of vehicles and recommend repair action.  Respond to emergency road calls, field diagnose the problem and make field repairs as necessary.  Perform welding and brazing, fabricate and modify parts, equipment, miscellaneous structures and attachments.  Inspect lawn maintenance equipment, overhaul engines, transmissions, differentials, and hydraulic components.  Do component change-out of same on automotive equipment.  Adjust and repair air and hydraulic brakes, perform complete brake system overhauls.  Diagnose and repair/replace electrical systems components.  Service and repair small gasoline engines, lawn mowers and lawn mower decks.  Regular and consistent attendance.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

Participate in division safety program.  Maintain shop and equipment in a safe, clean and orderly condition.  Maintain a variety of maintenance, repair and inventory records on the computerized fleet maintenance system.  Clean, repair and replace fuel pumps, strainers, fuel lines, gas/diesel tanks, and gauges.  Handle hazardous materials and store or dispose as needed.  Perform other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.  Specialized training or coursework in the maintenance and repair of gas and diesel-powered equipment is desired.

Experience

Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in the area of vehicle and equipment repair and maintenance performing duties comparable to those of an Equipment Service Worker in the City of Woodland.

License and Certificates

Required upon hire, possession of a valid Class C California Driver’s License.  Required prior to permanent appointment and maintained during employment, possession of a valid California Commercial Class A Driver’s License with Tank Endorsement.

Required upon hire and maintained during employment, possession of a minimum of two (2) valid ASE certifications, one (1) of which must be either A5 Automotive Brakes or T4 Heavy Duty Truck Brake Certification.

Required prior to permanent appointment and maintained during employment, possession of a valid Air Conditioning Refrigerant Recovery and Recycling certificate similar to ASE or MACS.

Current Salary:                     $4,082.78 – $5,210.78 per month

Retirement:                           CalPERS Retirement System (2 % @ 60 formula for Classic CalPERS members and 2% @ 62 formula for new CalPERS members)
The City does not participate in social security

Deferred Comp:                    Choice of deferred compensation plans (Traditional and Roth options).  After successful completion of probation, new hires are eligible for a monthly 2% City contribution.

Medical:                                 CalPERS Medical Insurance Plans, including HMOs and PPOs

City gives an allowance toward the cost of insurance

Maximum Family Medical Allowance (2023): $2,463.99 per month

Dental/Vision:                       City paid Delta Dental and EyeMed Benefits

LTD/STD:                               City paid wage protection for long/short term disabilities

Life Insurance:                     City provides $50,000 life insurance policy

Supplemental Benefits:      Voluntary Supplemental Life, Cancer, Accident Only, STD/LTD and Critical Illness insurance, and Flexible Spending Accounts available

Vacation:                               6.7 hours per month during first three years of service

Holidays:                               12.5 paid holidays (including two floating holidays)

Sick Leave:                           8 hours per month

Bilingual Pay:                       $200 per month upon certification

Prof. Growth Incentive:       $625 per fiscal year for education or professional activities
