Full-Time Licensed Electrician

Job Description

A Licensed Electrician is responsible for performing all or part of the following duties depending on the need of the job and as directed by the Supervisor. On a regular basis, you will be working 37.5 hours a week, Monday to Friday and/or may be required to work overtime as needed to complete the job. Working hours will be from 7:30am-3:30pm.

You will be assigned to work in a patient care areas during the course of your duty, and off hours (weekend and evenings) when major equipment shutdowns are planned or in response to emergency situations. As such it is mandatory for the Electrician to be capable of wearing a respirator as determined by the hospital’s Occupational Health department.

Here’s What You Get to Do:

  • Operate test equipment to determine the condition and operating characteristics of electrical equipment, control systems and materials.
  • Locate trouble which may have caused equipment failure, determine the corrective action required and make repairs where necessary.
  • Carry out schedule preventative maintenance on all electrical equipment as assigned.
  • Perform checks and testing on existing, new or modified electrical equipment.
  • Makes electrical installation and modifications utilizing blueprints, specifications, manuals, written or oral instruction, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Repair, service, and diagnose basis electronic circuits.
  • Carry out equipment isolation as necessary to establish work protection.
  • Troubleshoot and restore electrical power following a failure.
  • Calculate quantity of materials required and report requirements.
  • Provides and receives information through written reports and sketches.
  • Maintains communication equipment.
  • Understands and uses all safety equipment and protective clothing as required.
  • Provides departmental staff assistance and expertise as required.
  • Responsible for reporting risk management issues pertaining to electrical equipment within the hospital.
  • Perform duties with a high standard of safety, work habits and housekeeping practices.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Here’s What You Need:

  • A minimum of a Secondary School Diploma
  • Valid Ontario Electrician’s Construction and Maintenance License: 309A/442A.
  • Five (5) years minimum experience as a licensed electrician with electrical maintenance and repair preferably in an institution or industry.
  • Competency reading blueprints and using test instruments to locate sources of failure and determine best method of repair and carry out repairs.  Able to read, write and speak English sufficiently to describe problems, follow written direction and provide reports for documenting equipment history.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in environmental issues as well as an understanding of business and legal issues.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills required.
  • Possess ability to work, set goals and evaluate outcomes with minimal guidance required; ability to work individually and as a team player required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  • The ability to work under broad guidelines, abide by the principles and ethics of the function, while still providing a high degree of service.  Must have understanding to work in  an acute hospital settings, able to utilize sound judgment and decision making when dealing with critical electrical issues.
