Full-Time LGTBQIA2S+ Psychotherapist / Social Worker

Job Description

Are you part of the LGTBQIA2S+ community and do you have a special knack and experience in connecting with the LGTBQIA2S+ community?  If so, Jewish Family Services of Ottawa, and in particular, The Counselling Group (TCG) and The Walk-In Counselling Clinic (TWICC) would like to hear from you. As part of our team, you will be working one evening a week from the TWICC site in downtown Ottawa providing short-term counselling. During the reminder of the week, you will be offering on-going psychotherapy both virtually and in-person.

Under the supervision of the Manger of The Walk-in Counselling Clinic, the successful candidate will be responsible for direct service provision, which will include conducting client assessments, and providing treatment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical counselling / psychotherapy to clients during walk-in hours
  • Provides culturally appropriate and language-specific direct service including client assessment, treatment, and referrals
  • Provides advocacy and referrals to help clients’ access relevant community services. Where necessary and useful, collaborates with other professionals (i.e. doctors, settlement workers and other health-care professionals).
  • Maintains cooperative working relationships with community agencies, schools, courts, child welfare workers, etc., makes referrals and mobilizes community resources where indicated on matters relating to clients’ welfare
  • Ensures quality client care that is consistent with best practices, agency standards, and evidence-based approaches (particularly brief, narrative, & solution-focused therapies).
  • Maintains necessary documentation and case records.
  • Participates in supervision, meetings, workshops (including professional development opportunities)
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience

The successful candidate will have:

  • S.W., M.Ed. (Counselling) or equivalent degree
  • Be registered or eligible for registration with CRPO or OCSWSSW, or equivalent Professional Colleges and Associations
  • Maintains or is eligible to maintain professional liability insurance through their association.
    • Experience in short-term/brief-therapy, single session, strength-based, narrative counselling approaches would be an asset.
    • Commitment to inclusive, multicultural programming delivered via a racial equity lens; prior experience working in coalitions with diverse communities and an understanding of intersectional oppressions.
    • Direct experience working with LGTBQIA2S+ populations, including the spectrum of gender identity, transgender, and non-binary issues.
    • Strong leadership, administrative, organization, and written/verbal communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
  • Knowledge of community resources and host-agent language and culture.
  • Ability to work flexible hours according to program need.
    • Candidates must be fluent in French and English
    • Cross-cultural experience an asset
