Full-Time Lecturer of Health & Human Performance

Job Description

Position Summary:

The department of Health and Human Performance (HHP) within the College of Liberal Arts and Education (LAE) at UW-Platteville seeks a Lecturer to instruct undergraduate courses in Physical Education, Health Promotion-Wellness, and Exercise Science. This is a full-time, 9-month benefit eligible appointment, with anticipated start date of August 22, 2023.

Teaching duties include preparing course materials, developing syllabi, teaching both classroom and activity-based courses, preparing, administering, and grading of exams and assignments, and holding office hours.

Responsibilities:

  • The primary duty will be teaching various undergraduate courses in the Department of Health & Human Performance (HHP). Courses may include general education courses and required courses specific to the HHP major and minor emphases of exercise science, health promotion-wellness, physical education, coaching, and sport management. Teaching assignments will be dependent on the qualifications, background, and experience of the successful candidate.

General Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate undergraduate Physical Education, Health Promotion-Wellness and Exercise Science courses, and teach pedagogical best practices in all major emphases.
  • Carry a 15-credit teaching load.
  • General academic advising, including during registration, portfolio development, course work, and department assessments.
  • May advise undergraduate students majoring in Health & Human Performance.
  • Serve as initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations, and demonstrate responsibility and responsiveness to the needs of the students and department.
  • Respond to emails and other inquiries from students and colleagues.
  • May include teaching activity courses to general education students.
  • Participation/involvement in the University community.
  • Contribute to department meetings, projects, or initiatives in a collaborative manner with faculty and staff to achieve departmental goals.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the department.

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Required:

  • Master’s degree in Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Exercise Science, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Must be able to adjust teaching content material for all emphases (Physical Education, Health Promotion, and Exercise Science).
  • Able to teach students pedagogical best practices in all major emphases.
  • Great time management skills to maximize teaching and other duties assigned.
  • Able to work collaboratively with faculty and staff to achieve department goals.
  • Demonstrate responsibility and responsiveness to the needs of the students and department.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm for professional engagement with students in and out of the classroom.

Preferred:

  • Preference may be given to applicants with three years or more experience in collegiate teaching health promotion with a focus on health and wellness.
