Not all the learning at Abingdon and Witney College is based in the classroom. Our broad curriculum offers students the opportunity to develop skills in real life working environments, our farm at Common Leys is a good example. This is where we are looking to appoint learning support assistants who would be able to bring their skills of working with young people with Autism into the farm environment.
We aim to attract candidates with a good working knowledge of Education and Health Care Plans (EHCPs), with a thorough knowledge of and/or experience of working with young people with Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), as well as strategies for other SEN supported needs; training will also be provided.
These are varied roles and require dedicated individuals who enjoy working with young people, some of which have complex needs. You will possess the skills to support students studying from Entry Level to Level 3, enabling the students to succeed and achieve their full potential academically. You must enjoy being outdoors and see the advantages of the environment in helping the young people to gain confidence in learning and interacting with others.
The successful candidates will be responsible for working closely with teaching and cross college support staff to ensure that all students progress onto further programmes of study, or employment by achieving all elements of their study programme including maths and English, as well as developing skills essential for life and independence.
The role involves working with students on a 1:1 basis, providing classroom and pastoral support and facilitating workshop activities in-group situations. We work with amazing young people who have a range of learning and support needs, every day is different, and the support needs will vary. The college has a friendly, supportive culture focused on bringing out the best in every individual.
We are also looking for people who are interested in joining a pool of casual Learning Support Assistants where hours would be on a flexible hourly paid basis, which can fit around and suit your availability. If this option would suit you, then please highlight in your application that you would like to be considered for the hourly paid option.
In return, Abingdon & Witney College offer excellent benefits to our employees including generous pension and holiday schemes (with potential Christmas closure days), continued professional development, flexible working options, corporate gym membership, cycle/tech scheme and much more.
Closing date: Applications are viewed on an ongoing basis so apply as soon as possible
Interview date: To be confirmed
