Thompson Coburn, a large full-service law firm with offices in eight (8) cities across the U.S., is in search of a full-time non-exempt Learning and Development Trainer to join one of its offices in St. Louis, Chicago, New York, or Washington, D.C. Under the leadership of the Learning and Development Supervisor, this position will provide training services for all attorneys and staff through in-person and remote training delivery as well as the development and promotion of self-help training guides and videos.  Additionally, the role is responsible for supporting the Firm’s initiatives in developing, delivering, and maintaining learning paths in support of core competencies that elevate the Firm’s overall efficiency and productivity. After an initial period of training, this position is eligible for a hybrid-remote work schedule.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the design and development of innovative, engaging, and effective learning programs, including instructor-led training, e-learning modules, virtual and in-person classrooms, and workshops, with a focus on the Firm’s needs and modern learning methodologies (e.g., just-in-time training).
  • Builds, updates, and maintains learning paths in the Firm’s Learning Management System (LMS) to ensure the development of core competencies for attorneys and staff.
  • Helps in the modernizing of training programs by researching and implementing up-to-date methodologies and tools, including microlearning and on-demand training techniques.
  • Facilitates training programs on processes, procedures, software policies, and best practices, using in-person classes, virtual delivery methods, videos, and other self-service options.
  • Manages the Firm’s Learning Management System (LMS) to offer self-service learning options, class and demo registration, and employee training history.
  • Utilizes feedback from training sessions, support requests, and performance data to continuously improve training content, delivery methods, and staff learning outcomes.

 

Experience and Education Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of technical writing experience is required.
  • A minimum of one year of training experience is required, with experience in developing and updating learning paths preferred.
  • An Associate degree or higher is preferred.  Post-high school courses in English, Communications, Journalism, Computer Science, or related fields preferred.
  • Experience in instructional design is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal industry-specific software is preferred.
  • Experience in creating interactive videos is preferred.
  • Experience in working in a multi-office law firm or professional services environment is advantageous.

 

Compensation:

For applicants who meet the experience requirements for the role and are physically based in Washington, D.C., the expected salary range is $81,300 – $90,800 annually upon commencement of employment.  Starting salary will be determined on an individualized basis with consideration to prior experience and additional qualifications.  This is in addition to a comprehensive benefit package offered by the Firm.
