Job Title: Learning and Development Specialist

Location:  Remote, with residency in one of the following states required: CA, NC, PA, RI, SC, TN, TX

Reports To: SVP Programming and Evaluation

FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Summary:

The Learning and Development Specialist has primary responsibility for the analysis, design, development, delivery and evaluation of in-person and virtual trainings for Girls on the Run volunteer coaches and council staff.

Girls on the Run uses running and other physical activity as a platform for teaching life skills and promoting holistic health outcomes for girls in third through eighth grade. Our innovative lessons are specifically targeted to foster confidence, competence, caring, character, connection, and contribution, in addition to teaching critical life-skills such as managing emotions, helping others, intentional decision-making and conflict resolution.

Training Analysis, Design, Development, Delivery, and Evaluation 

  • Assess training and development needs through surveys, interviews, focus groups, communication with stakeholders, and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Use data to inform the development of council and program volunteer coach training.
  • Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content:
  • Design and develop content and support tools for a variety of delivery platforms including but not limited to instructor-led, eLearning, and self-paced web-based training.
  • Design and develop learning objectives and program outlines, storyboards, narrative scripts, screen content, video plans and scripts,  for eLearning modules.
  • Manage development of eLearning modules and associated components including videos, instructional graphics, visual assets and user interface, collaborating with external consultants as needed.
  • Incorporate multimedia elements into learning products, including but not limited to videos, imagery, animations or interactive elements.
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person training as needed.
  • Develop and implement training evaluation to demonstrate impact of training initiatives and maintain regular reporting and data.

Project Management 

  • Develop project plans for new training initiatives including key deliverables, timelines, resource allocation, budget and communication plans.
  • Communicate with internal and external teams, SMEs and GOTR HQ staff to ensure requirements are met and projects are kept on schedule.
  • Identify and maintain vendor relationships to support the development of training programs and materials.
  • Manage training project budgets and coordinate with finance department to ensure payments.
  • Coordinate as needed with the marketing team in the development of training assets and marketing materials that build training brand awareness.

General Responsibilities 

  • Maintain research of trends in training development and positive youth development to ensure training, resources and tools remain relevant and incorporate best practices in the field.
  • Serve as SME for the development of volunteer coach training, and the main point of contact for councils.
  • Act as a resource to staff on training content and best practices, utilizing current industry standards.
  • Serve as a role model for Girls on the Run.
  • Develop positive relationships with staff and council members.
  • Any other duties deemed necessary by the SVP Programming and Evaluation and senior leadership.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience in instructional design or adult education and development or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Demonstrated experience working with young people and designing training for adults working with young people (teaching, coaching, )
  • Demonstrated success in the design, development and implementation of eLearning curricula
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional design theory (ADDIE) and adult learning principles
  • Experience with in-person and virtual training delivery methods and engagement best practices
  • Experience using and managing a learning management system; Cornerstone OnDemand preferred
  • Proven project management skills
  • Knowledge of Kirkpatrick Levels of Evaluation and experience developing and implementing training evaluation measures
  • High proficiency with or the ability to quickly become proficient in various technologies and software, including:WebEx, Articulate, Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, Storyline, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

Compensation 

This position is offering a compensation of $54,000 – $60,000, depending on experience. In addition, Girls on the Run is proud to offer a generous PTO plan, a comprehensive benefits package including company-subsidized medical and dental coverage, vision coverage, life insurance, paid medical leave and a 401K with an employer match. This position is remote. The selected candidate must currently reside in or have immediate plans to relocate to one of the following states: California, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas.
