Position Purpose

To perform welding activities for constructing, maintaining, and repairing the natural gas distribution system. To perform the duties of a First-Class Distribution worker in the operation, maintenance, construction, and inspection of the natural gas distribution system. To ensure that these activities are performed in accordance with Federal and State regulations as well as company policy, company procedures, and management objectives. To provide services as an emergency gas leak first responder to ensure public safety and protect company assets. To ensure the timely and accurate completion of all necessary records, timesheets, paperwork, and documentation needed for accounting, regulatory, asset management, and other related purposes. Professionally interact with customers, regulatory authorities, and employees to ensure that the company satisfactorily meets their needs.

Principal Accountabilities

Lead Welder: To perform welding activities associated with the fabrication of pipeline assemblies and components, including in-service welding for the construction, maintenance, and repair of the natural gas distribution system. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

o    The ability to weld and install all types and styles of welded fittings and components on live gas mains, including but not limited to Mueller fittings, service punch tees,  risers,  meter brackets, valves, and steel pipe

o    The ability to read and interpret prints and schematics for the fabrication and construction of pipeline components

o    Assist supervisory personnel as needed to set up and install high-pressure welded steel services.

o    To build and test large volume meter sets.

o    Assist supervisory personnel with setting up compliance field work such as meter protection to include the fabrication and installation of specialized meter protection

o    Undertakes and completes assignments and special projects as assigned by management.

First Class Distribution Technician: Qualified and able to perform all duties of a First Class Distribution Worker associated with the operation, maintenance, and construction of the natural gas distribution system. These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

o    Distribution maintenance, construction, and inspection programs, including valve inspection, system patrols, facility installation and replacements, system investigations, gas leak repair, service abandonments, and other maintenance activities.

o    Gas Leak repair program, including gas leak surveys (e.g., gas main, service line, business district, etc.), leak identification and classification and repair, and act as an emergency first responder.

o    Damage Prevention Program includes line locating and mark-out, utilizing DigTix ticket management and third-party and high-risk ticket monitoring programs.

o    To execute these programs, using CMS, GIS/GPS,  and LocusView mapping software.

o    Prepare construction and maintenance orders as required to complete work activities

o    To properly care for and maintain company equipment such as an assigned vehicle, tools, and material, including the timely completion of records associated with such equipment.

Qualifications:

•    High school diploma or equivalent.

•    3 – years of related field experience, including in-service natural gas welding experience.

•    Must accept standby on a rotation basis.

•    Must reside within a specified geographic area and be available for duties during system emergencies.

•    Must be able to obtain Operator Qualification (O.Q.) certification based upon the requirements set forth in DOT 49 CFR 192, Subpart N

•     Must have all O.Q. requirements of a first-class gas distribution technician and associated welding O.Q.’s

•     Must possess or able to obtain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License

•    Must be qualified for the NGA SMAW pipe welding certification API 1104 20TH EDITION and maintain this certification to hold the welder lead rate.
