The City of Camas is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Lead Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator. The individual selected for this position will work under the supervision of the Wastewater Operations Supervisor and the Utilities Manager.
This individual will lead, oversee and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for the maintenance and operations of the wastewater treatment plant and sewage pump stations and related equipment; help ensure compliance with the NPDES permit requirements and State and Federal water quality regulations; complete special projects; perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility; coordinate activities with other operators; and provide highly responsible assistance to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operations Supervisor.
This facility is staffed 7 days/week. Days and hours for this position will be assigned upon hire, but may include weekends and holidays. The position is represented by AFSCME, Local 307CC and is eligible for a full benefits package.
Candidates for this position shall have:
- Education equivalent to the completion of two years of college level coursework supplemented by specialized training in wastewater treatment plant maintenance, operations or a related field
- Completion of at least 8 hours of leadership and management training
- Four years of increasingly responsible experience in operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and pumping facilities, including one year of administrative and supervisory responsibility relevant to the position and at least two years at a Class III or higher wastewater treatment plant
- Possession of an appropriate, valid Washington State Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator’s certification Class IV as administered by the Department of Ecology OR a Class III certification with the ability to obtain a Class IV within six months of the date of hire
- Advanced technology skills including proficiency in MS Office and an aptitude to learn new software programs as required for the position
