WHO YOU ARE:
You have been building satellites for years, probably since college, and know everything there is to know about how to make amazing satellites that are low cost and scalable. You’ve probably thought a lot about how to optimize the satellite manufacturing process, or seriously considered make/buy decisions on pretty much every sub-system. Plain and simple, you know exactly what needs to happen to build an amazing satellite. You will be the technical leader of a team developing a spacecraft system serving a range of missions and customers. This includes generating, tracking, and guiding requirements definition, spacecraft design, procurement and manufacture, integration and test, and verification and validation of the overall spacecraft system. You will be expected to fulfill a leadership position in guiding, instructing, and mentoring other engineers in best practices, policies and procedures, coding standards, and task management.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in engineering (MS preferred)
- You must have successfully flown a satellite in the last 12 months
- Preferably you’ve helped build a satellite constellation
- Experience in all phases of system/subsystem development, from initial concept definition through on-orbit operation
- Experience building a low cost small satellite
- Experience in sheet metal, subtractive, additive, and composite design approaches
- Prior experience as systems engineer, chief engineer, project manager, or lead engineer on satellite mission
- At least 4 years of experience leading a team
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead and Develop a complete space system (including satellite, working with launch vehicle ICD, satellite, ground support and data management operations)
- Hire an engineering team and ensure proper management processes
- Think outside the box
- Develop and maintain technical budgets
- Develop and manage system requirements and verification techniques
- Develop simulations and perform analysis across vehicle functions
- Develop test methods and plans for new developments
- Develop, in collaboration with team members, interface specifications, CONOPS definition, and other design documents
- Lead the technical teams in creating offers and customer interaction
- Lead proposal activities and facilitate technical exchanges with the engineering team
- Assist with program management and product management
- Provide mentoring for more Junior Systems Engineers
